I’m pleased to announce the release of Hudson Varick’s evaluation report detailing the impact The PATH Foundation’s three-year, $1.2 million grant made to the for-profit #foodhub, #4PFoods. The report details how the grant created access to healthy food and was instrumental in catalyzing a local food system. The evaluation report underscores several key lessons, including the importance of a holistic approach to funding food systems, the role of multi-stakeholder partnerships, the critical role of mission-driven management, the necessity of philanthropic funding for food system work, the power of collaboration and the importance of technical assistance. Retaaza brings fresh food access to communities and campuses through our Farm Stands, which are a bit different than traditional farmers markets. By pre-buying food from our farmer partners, we allow them to focus on farm-related activities while we engage directly with customers on their behalf. Always focused on reducing food waste, we find meaningful purpose for the produce left over by donating it to community organizations who work with our hungry neighbors. It's easy to be obsessed with new ideas, new projects. But sometimes we need to do more of the old.  You know, the ones that already exist and are having an impact and need our support - but don't have the glamour of the shiny new thing. Take our Community Fridge Network, for example, which shares 18 million meals' worth of surplus food a year. 🍛 We used to mainly fund new fridges to grow the network. However, this year in partnership with Co-op we introduced the Investment Fund, a pot of grant funding which works differently. The funding is to help existing fridges : • Run more efficiently • Serve their communities for longer • Support their volunteers and visitors better In October we launched the first round of funding, which provided 106 grants totalling £614,000. This funding is really important to make sure that the fridges we fund don’t just open their doors but can keep them open and operate at their best.  And it's something we're thinking about more and more: not just how to solve problems in new ways, but how to make sure our solutions stick, and have an impact in the long term. With a focus on the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) and indigenous communities in the Klang Valley area, we’re committed to making a real difference where it’s needed most. This partnership goes beyond financial support; it’s about working together to improve the well-being of the communities we serve and uplift those in vulnerable situations. Beyond our financial support, we’re also integrating TLFP’s efforts into our membership subscription plan, where RM2.00 from every subscription box will be donated to TLFP. Through this initiative, our customers can play an active role in driving sustainable change while ensuring nutritious food reaches those who need it most. Every ringgit we contribute to TLFP’s efforts helps provide five meals to those in need, amplifying the impact of every action. Last year, we collaborated with TLFP on several inspiring initiatives, including volunteer efforts at their warehouse, knowledge-sharing sessions, product donations, and impactful community outreach programs. These experiences not only strengthened our commitment to sustainability but also fostered a culture of giving back within our organization. Food bank visits have risen drastically in the province, and regions like Northern Ontario face obstacles with complex logistics when it comes to food security - but if we work together, we can have an impact. Combatting challenges like these requires innovative thinking – that’s why Feed Ontario created our Innovation Lab grant stream, awarding $100,000 to support a food bank in a ground breaking project. Thunder Bay’s RFDA was the recipient of last year’s grant, to develop three food hubs that intend to support food distribution efforts by creating drop-off points to allow for more frequent deliveries.
