Our CEO, Justin Kenna, recently sat down with the Capital Compass team at Stockhouse to chat about our growth and what's next for 2024. Here are some highlights from the interview: 🎮 FaZe Clan Success: Since the acquisition, FaZe Clan has shined at the Esports World Cup, with an overall ranking of 6th and nearly $2M in prize money, fan engagement has tripled and costs are being cut by $18M annually, setting us up for big brand deals (such as our recently announced multi-year, multi-million-dollar Rollbit and G Fuel deals). 📈 Record Growth: We’ve hit over $50M in revenue for the first half of 2024, on track to surpass $100M by year-end. 🚀SaaS & Tech: Our SaaS and tech services are growing fast, with high retention and attractive margins. 🤝 Big Partnerships: Multiple recent contract wins with Five Hour Energy, Topgolf, The NFL, and Riot Games are driving revenue growth, with more to be announced soon. 📊 Path to Profitability: We're on a path to adjusted EBITDA profitability by the end of this year, thanks to strategic cost management and targeted growth initiatives. 👉 Watch the full interview with Capital Compass to learn more about GameSquare's journey so far and path ahead! 👈

I’m meeting 5-10 new media startups every week. There’s one big theme emerging: ⚡️The unbundling of traditional distribution ⚡️ Examples: - 🧑🎨 Direct-to-creator communities = less reliance on social platforms - 📱 YouTube channels = less reliance on TV networks - 👾 User-created games on Roblox & Fortnite = less reliance on traditional gaming publishers Disrupting established business models is nothing new. But it feels like we’re going through another big wave right now which will force some radical thinking amongst traditional media cos. It’s Creators + Communities vs Big Media...

Voodoo acquired BeReal for €500M. Link -> comments. Although it sounds a strange acquisition, it feeds into a belief I've built over the past year. Hear me out, and please do me a favor and talk me out of it 😄. 💡 I think we might be on a path to omnipresence of games where you'll be able to integrate any game in any app/website/platform through, most likely, web technology. Currently there's a gap in the market for a social network that is focused on games (re: FB games), and I can see Voodoo turning BeReal into that. It's also a way of attracting a lot more people onto the platform. Right now, there's no place for me to play some casual games with friends or family. We need to have the same apps, I can't invite someone that can join seamlessly in a game. - Youtube is trying to fill the void, but YT is not social and they'll have to change user behavior from passive content consumption to active which is bot insanely hard and possibly destructive. - Discord seems fully committed to this path and might succeed, although the business model still seems to be unclear and I think it will take years until the ecosystem matures and game businesses can thrive there. - TikTok could be a #1 contender but they're experimenting with community games which seem more appropriate for them at the moment as it enhances their influencers and followers. - Linkedin is also weirdly trying gaming - still unclear what the aspirations are. - X - it seems too hard to build a gaming DNA there. - Twitch - trying some things, but adding any gaming on the streaming platform should cannibalize viewership ($). A gaming powerhouse pushing games into a social network might be more successful than a social network pulling games into it. This could also make Voodoo's ambitions to become a platform a reality. If I'm right and they succeed I think they might become a deca-unicorn in the next 5 years.

He discusses Supercell's declining revenue and profits and outlines actions to address this, focusing on treating new game teams like startups, giving more attention to existing successful games, and adding new leadership team members. However, it raises concerns about Supercell's approach to new game development 🎮 , comparing it to the Lean Startup methodology. Despite this, he acknowledges Supercell's consistent control of its narrative and brand. #Supercell #Gaming #leanstartup

Here is 3 learnings from Twitch Series B financing.💰 (a deep dive into BVP's investment memo) Twitch was founded in 2011 as a livestreaming platform for content spanning gaming, entertainment, sports, and music. 💻 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨? 1. My first startup crashed and burned. Why? We built in isolation, ignoring our customers. So when we launched Lazy Lions, we vowed never to repeat that mistake. We spent months, not years, figuring out the business model. Our first idea? Target Twitch streamers. As gamers, it made sense. Streamers already receive donations. So why not offer them NFTs as digital collectibles? It seemed perfect. But after talking to just three streamers, we hit a wall. The stigma around NFTs was strong. Changing minds would require massive education. Also, branding and marketing efforts. So, we pivoted quickly. The lesson? Speed and direct feedback are invaluable. We learned more in months than we had in years with previous ventures. Move fast. Talk to your customers. Adjust accordingly. —— Building something new in web3? Let's chat!
