The best way to beat the ATS is to bypass it. Candidates are sharing that they are applying for hundreds (or thousands!) of jobs, only to feel frustrated, disheartened, or stuck. You cannot rely on easy apply alone. If you want to stand out in your search, you need to be doing direct outreach. Here's who you should be reaching out to: - Leadership connections in your network - Friends working at companies you'd like to work for - Talent acquisition teams and hiring managers at companies where you've applied - Talent acquisition teams and hiring managers at companies where you’d like to work, even if they don’t have a job posted (80% of open positions never make it to job boards) - People in similar affinity groups (fellow alumni, former colleagues, etc.) Here's what to do: - Send each contact a brief personalized message (via email or LinkedIn). - - Keep the message short, and make sure your outreach is relevant, highlighting how your experience and skills can add value to their team or company. - Don’t include your resume in the email—it could get filtered into spam. Instead, ask for a quick Teams/Zoom meeting to discuss potential opportunities or the role further. None of this is easy. It takes a lot of work (you can automate some of it). You won’t hear back from most people you reach out to, and that’s OK. Don’t take it personally or get frustrated by the silence.
