If you're managing multiple Splunk clients, here are some key capacity guidelines for the Deployment Server (DS): For 50 or Fewer Clients --> Can share resources with other roles (e.g., indexer or search head) --> Using a dedicated server is still recommended for better performance, even at this scale For More Than 50 Clients --> Best to run on a dedicated Splunk Enterprise instance without co-locating roles like search heads or management consoles --> This ensures the DS can handle the increased CPU and memory load during app and configuration updates For Large-Scale Deployments (1,000+ Clients) --> Equip DS with 12GB RAM and 12 CPU cores on a high-speed LAN --> Estimated deployment time formula: T = 0.0075 * C + 2 where T = time in minutes, C = number of clients. A lot of what we do at Tenger Ways is working with our clients to assess their IT landscape to find and remove single points of failure. Sometimes it’s a server or a database or sometimes it’s a guy named Brent who has all the knowledge in his head. We add redundancies and make sure there are back up services in the event of failures. With modern IT architecture, you don’t hope things will go well, you expect and plan for them to fail. Every now and then- when an AWS region goes down, or CrowdStrike pushes a bad update - we’re reminded of single points of failure that are largely outside our control as individual organizations.
