Embracing Healthy Mental Health: The Power of Self-Perception As May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, it's crucial to shift our focus inward and prioritize our own perceptions of ourselves over external judgments. Reflecting on my own journey, I realized that I had internalized the belief that my worth was contingent upon making others happy, and that expressing emotions was a sign of weakness. This mindset led me down a path of anxiety and depression, as I constantly felt inadequate and suppressed my negative emotions. However, I've come to understand that the only opinion of myself that truly matters is my own. It's essential to acknowledge and communicate our feelings, allowing us to process and navigate them effectively. Contrary to the notion of burying negative emotions, embracing the full spectrum of feelings is an integral part of our humanity. It's not the presence of emotions that affects our mental health, but rather, it's our relationship with them. By letting go of the need for external validation and embracing self-compassion, we can cultivate a healthier mindset and improve our overall well-being. This Mental Health Awareness Month, let's commit to prioritizing our own self-perception, fostering open dialogue about our emotions, and recognizing that it's okay not to be okay. Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and create a more supportive and understanding community.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Although I believe we should prioritize our mental well-being every day, it's great to have a whole month dedicated to it. In the rapidly changing world of technology and shifting roles, it's crucial to prioritize our mental health. As our friends and family face job losses or transitions, it becomes even more vital to support them and ourselves. It's essential to take breaks, build healthy relationships, and make time for activities that bring us joy and happiness. Our mental well-being should always be a priority. So, here are a few things we can do to prioritize our mental health: 1. Take breaks: Give yourself some downtime to relax and recharge. Taking short breaks throughout the day can help reduce stress and boost productivity. 2. Cultivate supportive relationships: Surround yourself with friends and family who support and uplift you. Having a strong support system plays a significant role in maintaining good mental health. 3. Indulge in activities that bring joy: Make time for hobbies or activities that make you happy. Whether it's painting, dancing, or anything else that sparks joy, engaging in these activities can have a positive impact on your mental well-being. Remember, mental health awareness should extend beyond just one month. Let's make it a habit to prioritize our mental well-being every day. By taking care of ourselves and supporting others, we can create a happier and healthier world. So go ahead, take a moment for yourself and do something that brings you joy! You deserve it.

World Mental Health Day October 10th, 2024 Today, on World Mental Health Day, it’s essential to reflect on the importance of mental well-being and recognize that struggling with mental health is something many of us face. In our fast-paced, always-connected world, it’s easy to neglect our own mental health in the rush of daily demands. But taking care of our mental wellness is just as important as taking care of our physical health. Many people silently struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, or burnout. Taking care of our minds is crucial for overall well-being, yet it's often overlooked or stigmatized. Here are a few things we want to remind you of: You're Not Alone: Whatever you're going through, know that you're not alone. Millions of people worldwide face mental health challenges every day. You're never alone in this journey. It's OK to Not Be OK: It's perfectly normal to have ups and downs. It's OK to feel sad, anxious, or overwhelmed at times. Your feelings are valid, and it's important to acknowledge them. Seek Support: Reach out for support when you need it. Whether it's talking to a friend, family member, therapist, or helpline, there are people who care and want to help you through difficult times. Self-Care Matters: Take time for yourself and prioritize self-care. Whether it's practicing mindfulness, exercising, or engaging in hobbies you enjoy, make self-care a part of your routine. Mental health awareness. Hi everyone, please do take some time to read this and help your mother/ father, a relative or Friend to stay mentally Fit. First of all, we the Mental health office are making an awareness to organizations and off course everyone of our existence and the services that we provide. Before we proceed on to the services provided, we would like to explain what mental health really means. Mental health is a critical aspect of an individual's overall well-being. It refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and affects how we think, feel, and act. Unfortunately, mental health conditions are prevalent in our society, with millions of people worldwide suffering from various disorders such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. Therefore, it is very important to raise awareness and educate society about mental health to reduce the stigma associated with these conditions and promote a better understanding of mental well-being. An insight on what we do and what are the service we provide are as follows; - We do mental health Peer counseling sessions. - We do Mental health hotline counseling sessions on #1801030 which is free of charge. You may call us on both Digicel or Bmobile number. - Trainings/Work shop sessions are provided as per requested. - We do referrals to Jubilee Secondary school, St.Thres and Port Moresby General hospital ward six for counseling and medication. - Working days are from Monday-Friday. Counseling hour is from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Call us during the day and time given. All these above services that we provide are free of charge. Understanding the importance of mental health can encourage individuals to prioritize self-care practices such as stress management, regular exercise, and establishing healthy coping mechanisms. Promoting self-care fosters resilience and helps individuals to better manage their emotions and overall mental well-being. All in all, promoting self-care and well-being, we can fight the negative impact of mental illnesses on individuals and society as a whole.In that way, we can live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life. May is Mental Health Awareness Month! We will be sharing tips from psychologist Kia-Rai Prewitt, PhD, to help you learn some of the ways you can improve your everyday mental health bit by bit. Carve out small mental health breaks throughout the day. Claiming a full mental health day sounds like an easy solution, especially when you’re overwhelmed with work and responsibility. But carving out a whole day isn’t always possible, and for some, this might cause additional stress. In fact, 7 out of 10 Americans believe taking shorter breaks throughout their day is more beneficial than one half-hour lunch or one-hour break. “We’re not always going to accomplish everything that we set our minds to do at the beginning of the day because things come up,” acknowledges Dr. Prewitt. “It’s important to know that in addition to your work tasks, it’s also a priority to take a break and recharge yourself.” Instead of letting tensions build, Dr. Prewitt suggests taking several five- to 10-minute breaks throughout your day to help relieve stress, depression or anxiety. You can do this by taking a five-minute walk around the block, doing a 10-minute meditation or practicing a guided imagery exercise. “Even standing once every hour for a few minutes can help with circulation,” says Dr. Prewitt. “If you’re giving yourself these little breaks throughout the day, I think it can help sustain your energy and contribute to a more positive attitude.”
