Overall, this merger showcases how security analytics platform vendors continue to face headwinds on ensuring completeness of offering while competing with innovation coming from other vendors, including hyper-scalers like Microsoft, AWS, and Google and cybersecurity stalwarts like Palo Alto Networks. Expect more consolidation in the security analytics platform market in the years to come, as well as increased competition from extended detection and response vendors that are pushing into the #SecOps space. #mergersandacquisitions #cybersecurity

The #SIEM market has been shaken by recent acquisitions - #CISCO #Splunk, IBM #Qradar #PaloAlto, #Logrhythm- #Exabeam an 18-minute interview with #Forrester’s Principal Analyst, Allie Mellen provides some insights into the reasoning, consequences and risks and opportunities that come with these acquisitions. As for #QRadar customers, the recommendation was clear: start looking for a product alternative NOW. While IBM may still claim to support the on-prem version, from a long-term perspective that may not be the most likely thing to happen. Also, the QRadar deal is a #CustomerAcquisition, NOT a #TechnologyAcquisition. PaloAlto is not likely to invest into that product, but wants customers to migrate to their portfolio. IBM’s motivation behind the deal appears to be re-focusing their strategic portfolio more on AI and hybrid cloud. For those QRadar customers who consider switching to the PaloAlto product portfolio, the switch is going to be drastic, particularly in terms of interaction with the PA product suite. When it comes to the #LogRhythm/#Exabeam deal, the major (Leadership) challenge will be the huge difference between the two organizations in terms of geographical presence, go-to-market strategy, customer size, product portfolio strengths and corporate culture. https://lnkd.in/d-GudvjU

Fortinet made 16 acquisitions before, but Lacework is different because it’s not a small technology purchase but rather an enterprise-class solution provider with roughly 750 employees that commanded an undisclosed but meaningful price. Lacework previously raised $1.3B in a Series D round in November 2021 at an $8.3B valuation, and promptly severed 20% of its workforce in May 2022 amidst the market slowdown. This is clearly an opportunistic acquisition considering Lacework’s revenue growth deceleration, and the VCs likely wanted out, so the only question is how deep the discount was. An April 18 article in TechCrunch suggested Lacework was being shopped at a $150M to $200M valuation which would be a wipeout for Lacework investors. Fortinet’s technology solutions are all built upon the Fortinet Security Fabric which simplifies integration of the individual component tools into a cohesive security platform. Lacework will be integrated into that solution matrix and will strengthen the product portfolio, where it should get more traction with the Fortinet salesforce behind it. The only concern is that management has not previously integrated an acquisition of this size, so the risk is how long it takes and how smoothly it goes.
