🚨 Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a serious threat to global health, impacting millions of lives worldwide. This is why the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Health & Healthcare is raising awareness and driving action to combat this growing crisis. 💬 As Christopher Murray, Director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, explains, "Antimicrobial resistance is when bacteria or pathogens are able to avoid the effects of an antibiotic... if you get one of those infections and you're counting on an antibiotic saving your life, for example, and they don't work well, that leads to much worse outcomes." 💥 1.25 million deaths are directly attributable to resistant infections, and nearly 5 million deaths are associated with bacterial infections where antibiotics are no longer effective. 🗯 Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on AMR, underscores the urgency: "The World Health Organization listed antimicrobial resistance as one of its top 10 threats facing humanity. We need to start with preventing infections. But then we need to use antibiotics effectively and have a strong pipeline. This matters to everyone on the planet, and everyone's got to play their role." Strategies to tackle AMR include: 👉 R&D Investment: Fostering a robust pipeline of new antibiotics through public and private sector collaboration. 👉 Stewardship Programmes: Promoting the appropriate use of antibiotics to prevent misuse and overuse. 👉 Preventative Measures: Implementing effective infection control practices and vaccination programs. We must act now to prevent AMR from reversing decades of medical progress. Health ministers and global health policymakers should rightly prioritize this issue and support comprehensive strategies to mitigate the impact of antimicrobial resistance. 📢 Join the conversation and share your insights on how we can collectively combat AMR. #AMR #GlobalHealth #Healthcare #Antibiotics #WorldEconomicForum Christopher Murray and Dame Sally Davies were hosted by Robin Pomeroy on Radio Davos: https://lnkd.in/e3x_tE2X Diana McGhie, Katie Young, Judith Moore, Shyam Bishen, Ph.D., MS, MBA, Daniella Díaz, Robin Pomeroy

🌍18 to 24 November marks World AMR Awareness Week, shedding light on the critical issue of Antimicrobial🌎 Resistance (AMR). AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve over time, rendering medications ineffective. This phenomenon poses a significant challenge in treating infections, leading to severe illnesses and elevated risks of disease transmission and mortality. The global community recognized the urgency of addressing antibiotic resistance at the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2015. A comprehensive action plan was adopted to combat the escalating threat posed by AMR. Central to this plan is the imperative to enhance awareness and comprehension of AMR through robust communication, education, and training initiatives. World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) serves as a pivotal global campaign observed annually to foster understanding and awareness of AMR. By promoting best practices among the public, One Health stakeholders, and policymakers, WAAW aims to mitigate the proliferation and dissemination of AMR. Together, we can strive to curb the advancement of antimicrobial resistance and safeguard public health. #AMRAwarenessWeek #Join_the_fight.

🦠 The Growing Threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) 🦠 Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a silent, escalating threat that has far-reaching implications for global health. Every year, infections that were once easily treatable become deadly as bacteria, viruses, and fungi develop resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents. Without immediate intervention, AMR could lead to a world where common infections are untreatable, and routine medical procedures become high-risk. In my experience as a public health professional and healthcare provider, I have seen first-hand the importance of addressing AMR from multiple angles—from clinical practice to data analysis. Working with databases and analyzing patient outcomes has shown me how essential accurate data is in identifying resistance patterns, informing treatment strategies, and shaping effective public health policies. The path forward requires a coordinated effort between healthcare providers, researchers, governments, and communities. We need policies that promote responsible use of antibiotics, greater investment in research for new treatments, and increased public awareness about the consequences of overusing antimicrobials. Educating patients, controlling infections in healthcare settings, and enhancing global surveillance of resistant pathogens are critical steps. Together, we can build a future where AMR is contained, and effective treatments are preserved for generations to come. #AntimicrobialResistance #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #InfectiousDiseases #DataAnalysis #HealthPolicy

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing threat that we cannot ignore. As we approach World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (#WAAW), let’s unite to raise awareness about this critical issue. AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve and become resistant to the medications designed to treat them. This resistance can lead to longer hospital stays, higher medical costs, and increased mortality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), AMR could cause 10 million deaths annually by 2050 if we don’t take action. Spread the word: AMR affects us all, and if we don’t act now, it could compromise our health and the effectiveness of current treatments. Together, we can make informed choices about antibiotic use, such as only using antibiotics when prescribed by a healthcare professional, completing the full course of treatment, and never sharing antibiotics with others. Join the movement—your voice matters! Share information, engage in conversations, and advocate for responsible antibiotic use in your community. Let’s work together to combat AMR and protect our health for future generations. #WAAW #AntimicrobialResistance #AntibioticAwareness #FightAMR Generational Stewards for Antimicrobials (GSA) Ngoni Veddie Muzondo ,Brandon Anotidashe Jaka ,Varaidzo Joyline Mukwekwe ,Olive Thomas, Raminos Madi,Munyaradzi Chisora ,Nokukhanya Mabhena ,Tafadzwa Chirisa ,Paradzai lnnocent Njazi

Antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) is the silent pandemic of our time, and this year’s #WorldAMRAwarenessWeek theme, set by #WHO, is #EducateAdvocateActNow. It serves as a crucial reminder that the remarkable progress made since Fleming’s discovery of penicillin could be undone if we fail to act swiftly. Over the past five years, AMR has been a central focus at Health Focus, woven into our work on #OneHealth, targeted AMR initiatives, and #PandemicPreparedness projects (e.g., in ECOWAS). It’s vital that we keep AMR high on the global health agenda. We have strong hopes for the Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership (#GARDP) to enhance access to effective treatments for drug-resistant infections, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
