It was good to spend time with members of the IPRS (Institute of Public Relations of Singapore) over our Tabao Talk: What is PR Wisdom? Thank you all for sharing your wisdom. We learn about social acumen from Vanessa Wan who feels that while wisdom is not easy to define, social acumen is a behaviour of someone with wisdom. For me, she is a testament of one with great social acumen :). Yap Boh Tiong reminded us of the importance of acquiring knowledge as PR professionals so we are better consultants to our clients. We must go beyond knowing our client’s products: to get insights on the competition, who is the right audience and deal with other external impact. Asking the right questions is critical to understanding what clients want and need and thank you Kelvin Koh for this reminder that data and insights are the starting points and the next steps are to understand and adapt. There was much more said and this summary is only the gist. Great to have Selvi R Anne Chng and Gerardine Donough-Tan and Jini Pillai too. Wisdom is embedded in our personal and collective experience. The knowledge we choose to gather for ourselves and what we learn from our work and the communities in which we give and receive. It is not enough to know what to do, we must know what is best to be done in any given situation. And as we all know, situations change all the time. #publicrelations #communications #prwisdom

PRHK, the leading association for public relations and communications professionals in Hong Kong, has appointed its new board for 2024/25. The year ahead will see PRHK continue to represent, champion, promote and grow the Hong Kong public relations and communications industry. This year's board welcomes six highly respected industry practitioners, bringing a wealth of experience across diverse sectors and specialties. Their fresh perspectives complement the continuity provided by the reappointment of twelve board and sub-committee members from the previous year. This blend of experience and innovation ensures a dynamic and well-rounded leadership for PRHK. The new board of PRHK came into effect in August 2024 and welcomes Companion Communications Managing Director Dominique Backhouse as Membership Co-Chair. PRHK’s focus remains unchanged: the association is an enabler for active and emerging professionals to navigate the dynamic communications landscape of Hong Kong, while also supporting their members and the wider PR community to foster meaningful connections and facilitate knowledge sharing. Collaborating alongside members and external partners including industry thought leaders and academia, PRHK drives advocacy for the industry through a series of learning and networking events, viewpoints contribution, and case studies sharing to showcase innovation across a range of strategic communications programmes. Engaging new generational talent has always been a high priority on the PRHK agenda. This will continue to be supported with initiatives including the Annual Hong Kong PR Young Lions Competition, as well as extensive engagement programmes with Hong Kong academic institutions and universities; from reviewing curriculums and guest lecturing to training programmes and internships, PRHK will support and nurture the next generation of industry professionals. In light of the pressing climate risks, PRHK is committed to advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in the communications and marketing sector through its partnership with ReThink HK, Hong Kong’s best-attended sustainable business forum and solutions expo. This collaboration aims to deepen understanding of sustainability within the framework of “ReThinking Marketing and Communications.” By integrating ESG considerations into PRHK’s strategic initiatives, the association will advocate for responsible communication practices and equip industry professionals with insights into the broader sustainability landscape. To unite the profession and diversify industry reach and participation, PRHK’s membership categories invite corporates (in-house teams), academics, affiliates, agencies, individual professionals and students to join. So, I'm coordinating the Mentorship Programme of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR Enugu chapter, and a week ago, we had a session on a theme that opened my eyes on one of most important human skills: 👉 Emotional Intelligence and Its Importance for Public Relations Practice.👈 Presented by Faustinus Ilo, PhD , our chapter chairman. The NIPR Mentorship Programme is a platform for budding and aspiring PR practitioners to solidify their knowledge and skills, by learning from experienced professionals. We sessions twice monthly. It's incredibly rewarding to witness the engagement and insights shared during the event. Dr. Ilo's discussion highlighted how emotional intelligence is not just a beneficial skill in PR, but a critical one. It is the ability to go through complex emotional landscapes, understand diverse perspectives, and respond with empathy. Having that is what can sets PR professionals apart in today's fast-paced and often unpredictable environment. Is it possible to relate with others effectively, without understanding your emotional state as well as theirs? I doubt that. During the session, something else came to me like an epiphany. We're in a world increasingly shaped by AI and automation. However, the human touch—characterized by emotional intelligence—remains irreplaceable. Or, at least, it will take longer. While AI can assist with data analysis, automate routine tasks, and even generate content, it still cannot replicate the deep emotional understanding and relationship-building that are at the heart of PR. This realization has led me to believe that PR may be one of the last professions to be significantly disrupted by AI. The need for genuine human connection, emotional insight, and nuanced communication ensures that our roles remain vital and relevant. Notwithstanding that technology has given us platforms to connect faster with our publics, the human or emotional connection will continue to require a human. At least for now. You can join us for the next session coming up Friday August 23, by 8.30pm via Google Team.

The study of framing analysis in media research has proliferated, yet its application to press releases or public relations statements remains uncommon. This research aims to analyze the framing of SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta's position statement regarding the AGH case, which involved legal action against Mario Dandy Satriyo (20) for the alleged persecution of David Ozora (17). Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and framing analysis method by Robert N. Entman, the study examines how SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta selects and emphasizes certain aspects of the crisis stemming from AGH's alleged involvement in David Ozora's persecution. In addition to analyzing the primary data—the position statement text—the researcher conducted multiple in-depth interviews with the Chairperson of the Tarakanita Crisis Center (TCC) to comprehensively explore framing and agenda setting processes. The findings reveal that SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta frames its position statement in the AGH case by defining the problem, making moral judgments, and recommending treatments. Interviews also unveiled Tarakanita's potential as a public relations exemplar for educational institutions in crisis management through the Tarakanita Crisis Center (TCC), aiming to safeguard the organization's reputation and image while addressing crises effectively. This underscores the importance of strategic communication and crisis response mechanisms in maintaining organizational integrity amidst challenges. In my humble view, for someone who wants to embark upon a career in communications would be to exhibit and showcase communication skills especially in a multicultural environment. Problem solving, persuasive writing, level-headedness and an ability to take complex concepts and make them digestible are just some abilities you may have developed in a different role but could be applicable if properly aligned. Understanding communication and its effects , knowing how to properly position things is in and of itself a corporate communications skill. In the recent years, we have encountered countless people who believe that public relations sounds like an interesting job and they embrace the possibility and opportunity. Knowing how to type doesn't make you a writer; having a mouth doesn't make you a communicator. It takes effort to understand the role to ensure the message is clear and vividly spoken especially about the company’s brand and an indepth perspective of the company’s growth. Communication plays a very important and powerful role internally and externally. Nanthini Theva Group Communications Director Pampas Group of Restaurants Malaysia

A good day at Nanyang Technological University Singapore Wee Kim Wee School of Communications and Information. Thank you Ferdinand ('Ferry') de Bakker and Amanda Huan for the invitation to share with students of the Masters of Communications course. The topic was Sector PR & Communications - public, private and social. The students asked very good questions. It is one thing to practice PR and quite another to teach it. The former is almost instinctive and the latter requires explanation. Both are equally demanding. IPRS (Institute of Public Relations of Singapore) #publicrelations #communications

In Mr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku’s class which was on the 9th of May 2024 around 9:15 to 11:15am, I learnt some objectives of Public relations production which were; -Maintaining good relationship with the stakeholders. -Managing of crisis. -Identifying the right platforms. -To maintain the good reputation of the organization etc. I also learnt that there are two main factors in public relations, which are the Internal and external factors. The internal factors included the activities in the organization. It can be the employees engagement in the organization and communication channels. The effectiveness of the communication determines the strength and weaknesses of the organization. Also the External factors are the elements outside the organization that affect the public relations practice. They can be the media since the media conveys messages from the organization to the publics. Public opinion is a key element in the external factors because the organization needs the feedback of the public to help maintain the reputation or image of the company. This and many more are what I learnt in Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, APR Lecturers today.

"Systematic Investments in PR Measurement Sahi Hai!" (Systematic Investments in PR Measurement is the Right Choice) The PR industry struggles with establishing consistent, universally accepted metrics, raising the broader question of how to demonstrate its contribution to organizational growth. It's unfortunate that while millions spent on advertising often go unquestioned in terms of ROI, much smaller investments in PR frequently face scrutiny. Are we still battling to defend the recognition of PR's impact? Yes, to some extent. What developments have occurred in this ongoing struggle? Key takeaways from mentorship session with @badejookusanya President, African Public Relations Association; on standing out as a PR Professional at @ngwomeninpr ExperiencingPR conference - You need to have vision. Ask yourself, who do you want to be and where you want to be - You must develop curiosity, curiosity did not kill the cat, it gave it nine lives instead - You must be a solution provider: PR is the only profession where you’re allowed to be a Jack of all trades and master of all. You must have in-depth knowledge about every work that you are doing - PR is the art of telling compelling stories, everything boils down to storytelling. What you say, when you say it and how you say it make all the difference to the world #ExperiencingPR2024 #solpr
