Managing negative reviews is essential for Hong Kong's hospitality sector, particularly given the significant influence of mainland tourists who frequently use platforms like Little Red Book to express dissatisfaction. Negative reviews can drastically reduce the likelihood of bookings, making it imperative for businesses to respond promptly and professionally, leverage positive reviews, and improve service quality. Understanding cultural differences and providing services that cater to the specific preferences of mainland tourists are also crucial. By adopting a strategic approach to managing online feedback, Hong Kong's hospitality businesses can enhance their reputation and ensure sustainable growth. https://lnkd.in/egBqwuib

HOSPITALITY NEWS #811 Decision taken by board after “exhaustive review” The board of Weeva, the sustainability management tool for independent hotels and tourism businesses, has called for the closure of the business “based on a considered view of external market forces, associated risks and the path to commerciality of the business”. In an email to partners, Julie Cheetham, managing director of the startup, founded in 2021, said, “We recently concluded an internal review of Weeva to assess the go-forward sustainability of the business. This process was exhaustive and included discussions with partners and potential investors. We have concluded that the Weeva product is forging a path well ahead of the market, impacting the scalability and overall sustainability of the business model.” Addressable market: “The addressable market is well below our initial expectations with market insight and analysis demonstrating that many in the industry are not yet ready to adopt a more rigorous approach to sustainability.” Technology stack complexity: “We set out to build an application that supported our aim of setting the global benchmark for a sustainability framework. The product’s coding complexity and the real-time changes required to meet varied needs mean there is a delivery risk and possible impact on the commercial viability of the product suite.” Market attractiveness: “Business model commerciality is also undermined by the highly fragmented state of the sustainability-technology market. This is expected to persist for some years to come.” Sustainability regulation drivers: “A number of listed corporate sustainability regulations have been implemented. Despite their benefits, the adherence to, and governance of, these regulations will take time. There is a risk that at our targeted non-listed hotel group level regulation will be deferred for years to come, further raising the risk of missing sales and revenue targets.” Sources: WIT

Last week Good & Co. held our first webinar, kicking off the Sustainable Hotel Exchange: X Matters series with Sustainable Hotel News. I was on the panel alongside industry experts Alina Arnelle, Chief Sustainability Officer BeCause; Peter Marshall, Head of Compliance PPHE Hotel Group; and our series partner, Felicity Cousins, Editor of Sustainable Hotel News. We first focused on how hotels can leverage sustainability data to enhance transparency, navigate new legislation, and accelerate behavioural change. There was a consensus that prioritising transparency around data points is crucial. Peter highlighted, "data drives ESG strategy, linking to the materiality assessment and its outcomes." I emphasised the need to cultivate this mindset among stakeholders by sharing my old favourite "if we can't measure it, we can't manage it." - team KPIs will ensure its kept a priority. Alina provided a tech-perspective, stressing the importance of technology and AI to reduce bureaucracy and focus on operational impact. We shared some scepticism about certain certifications and trying to avoid a one size fits all approach. But all agreed that hoteliers should begin preparing for the CSRD reporting framework to future-proof their data collection processes asap. The recording will soon be hosted by Sustainable Hotel News and we will share the next dates in the series along with the next panelists. #ESG #data #CSRD #hospitality #SustainableHotelExchange
