3 SEO trends for 2025 The challenge for 2025? Balancing innovation with authenticity and automation with human insight. What trends should guide your next steps? Let’s take a look. 1. Search alternatives and Google’s antitrust trial If Google is forced to share its data as part of antitrust rulings, the SEO landscape may face dramatic changes. This will allow Google’s competitors to use its search data and algorithms to build their search engines faster. Something that hides the potential to diversify the organic landscape significantly. Building on this hypothetical future, while all competitors would start with the same foundational data, they could also innovate and introduce new methodologies. 2. AI as a powerful (or terrible) assistant With so many AI-powered tools available, it’s easy for SEOs to get lost in the sea of options. While some of these tools can be helpful, there’s a real risk in relying too heavily on them. If you and thousands like you, are all using the same tools trained on identical data, the outcome will be mediocrity at best. 3. The user versus the keywords Optimizing for users rather than keywords will also be among the keys to SEO success in 2025. Instead of focusing solely on keywords, SEOs should build content around user pain points and challenges, targeting the intent behind their searches. Keywords can be misleading. Often, terms with high search volume mask unclear intent or are dominated by UGC websites (e.g., Reddit, Quora) or listicles and review websites that Google tends to prioritize.

Optimizing for "near me" queries on Google. For some sites, like the one pictured, variations with the term "near me" in them can be some of the highest traffic-generating and shouldn't be ignored. When it comes to marketplace SEO, these terms are often especially important. For other industries, an argument could be make that they technically can't be directly optimized for and shouldn't be due to relevance. In my experience of working with large marketplaces across various sectors, there are two strategies that can be employed to rank for these queries: 1. Have localized landing pages for cities/towns 2. Develop "near me" focused pages to broadly rank While strategy 1 above would be considered the most sustainable in terms of usefulness, if you have the listing/classified content to support it, my preference is for whatever delivers results. I've seen both approaches work for different industries. In some case, having the word "near me" or "near you" is even used in the content itself to directly optimize for the query itself. Again, I've seen this work well within a content strategy, and other times it not working well and coming across as spammy. How the landing page is designed and the content a marketplace has access to, with the ability to make the content on each URL as unique/useful as possible – these are the factors that matter most and end up being whether you're able to rank highly or not. The lesson: try not to enter SEO situations with a pre-conceived bias to what does/doesn't work. At the end of the day, our job is to help our clients rank and develop sustainable businesses. Many people say "don't optimize for near me queries" – but context is important to whether this is or isn't the right decision

My most successful SEO case by far. Here's what I've accomplished in less than 9 months: ✅ Increased organic traffic: +8629% ✅ Increased number of qualified leads: +7337.5% ✅ Increased ranked keywords from around 10 to over 1,146. (May 2024) ✅ 16 of my most important keywords are now ranked #1 with a featured snippet. ✅ Ranked in the top 3 positions on Google for 476 keywords. I'm not sharing this to brag about the results, but to show you what's possible when you dare to apply AI to your marketing, using the right tools and strategy. 😎 How I did it in 3 simple steps: 1. Conducted thorough research on the target group I wanted to reach. 2. Created a Topical Authority map for all the keywords I needed to rank for at all stages of the buyer's journey (top, middle, and bottom of the funnel). 3. Used WP SEO AI to implement that strategy and automate the workflow. 💡 BONUS: I built an API connection to Google's Index Registry, so that they immediately indexed and de-indexed posts I created or deleted. (This is super powerful, so if you don't use it today and don't know how to set it up, let me know and I will help you) I recorded a semi-long video explaining more about the case.
