A proud day for us all in Reputation Inc last Thursday with the stakeholder launch of our "Insights & Impact 2024" report. The ambition in producing the report was, not just to frame the emerging themes from our insights work through 2023, but also to stimulate debate about the ever-changing stakeholder environment that companies and organisations are now operating in. How terrific it was therefore to gather in a room full of industry experts to discuss priority areas impacting reputation ambition and strategy. What is clear is that companies and organisations (and therefore leaders) are operating in an environment where stakeholder expectations and demands of them are higher than ever, and that those that stay attuned and respond to changing stakeholder sentiment stand to benefit the most. I’m currently sat on the tarmac in Heathrow watching them take the bags of non-Schengen visa holding passengers off the plane. Never a good sign when you were hoping to fly to Gibraltar! However, it has given me some time to reflect on what’s been a busy but rewarding week in New Jersey. While many in the industry were at Sigma in Malta, I had the chance to spend time with both the BetMGM and Entain Leadership teams, working on strategies for 2025 and beyond. The week started in Jersey City at BetMGM’s office, which has an amazing view of the Hudson and the New York skyline - something I never get tired of seeing. Our discussions focused on aligning our strategic goals and some exciting gaming deliverables being planned for next year. After a lovely dinner on Tuesday night, I headed to Princeton with the Entain Product & Tech Leadership team. From OKRs to budgets, strategy and talent planning, we tackled it all - topped off with a team-building exercise that had us racing around the Princeton town and campus. (Let’s just say the competitive spirit in this group is alive and well!) This trip was a good reminder for me. As leaders, so much of our focus is on our own teams, but we’re also part of another team - one of our peers and colleagues. Spending time together in person, whether collaborating on plans or just laughing over dinner, is so valuable. It helps build the relationships that make working across continents and time zones not just possible, but enjoyable. It’s been a week of hard work, connection, and collaboration, and no matter how long it takes me to get home this morning the trip will have been well worth it. How do you find the balance between leading your own team and contributing to the broader leadership group? Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of taking part in the BigFeat Events Big Night Out trail run in Winchester. The experience was like no other: running through woodlands, fields, and tracks, all in the dark with glow sticks lighting the way and neon face paint adding to the fun. The best part? Finishing the race overlooking the beautiful city of Winchester with fireworks lighting up the sky! 🎇 But, as exhilarating as the experience was, it reminded me of something important: **preparation is key to success**, whether you’re running a race or stepping into a managerial role. Just like training for a challenging trail run, becoming a new manager requires the right preparation. It’s not just about having the right tools; it’s about understanding the terrain, knowing how to navigate through the bumps and turns, and being ready for the unexpected. The race was a test of endurance, focus, and strategy—qualities that are equally important in leadership. And let’s talk about the reward. After crossing the finish line, the satisfaction of earning that shiny medal and feeling a true sense of achievement was incredible. But the real prize in leadership isn’t just the title—it’s the feeling of guiding your team to success, overcoming challenges, and seeing the impact of your work.
