XenServer 8: Unprecedented scalability for Citrix customers. Utilize XenServer 8 for all Citrix workloads, up to 10,000 sockets. Between now and December 1, 2024, Citrix customers can request to participate in a no-cost promotion for 10,000 XenServer Premium Edition socket licenses. Just like the free entitlement of Citrix Hypervisor for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix DaaS, these XenServer socket licenses can be used for all workloads to support the Citrix infrastructure. The duration of the promotional licenses is co-termed with the duration of your current or upcoming Citrix subscription. For example, if you have 1 year and 5 months left of your subscription, the promo licenses will be valid for 1 year and 5 months. If you renew your subscription during the promo period for 3 years, your promo licenses will be valid for those additional 3 years. The cash grab looks to be on for Citrix as well. With more and more vendors trying to take advantage of vendor lock in its critical you know your alternative paths and be ready to take them as the competitive and pricing landscape changes. Citrix appears to be taking a page out of Broadcom\VMware's playbook and is doubling the cost of licensing. As of today, it looks like the price increases are only impacting month-to-month licenses as they look to lock in customers to longer term deals. If you are licensing your Citrix through a Citrix Service Provider (there are 2 million active subscribers in that program today), you may be seeing a marked increase in your bill if you are on a month-to-month contract.
