From my podcast with Dr. Margaret Paul: "One of the major ways of abandoning oneself is through self-judgment. That part that you're talking about, that devil which we call the ego wound itself, is going to judge you. "What's the matter with you? You're a jerk. Get off the couch. You got to do better and accomplish." It goes after us. That part wants to control. That person wants to control the outcome and how people feel about him. It's all about control. If his intention was to love, value and see himself, he would behave differently. He's not even asking, "What's in my highest good? What's loving to me?" He's pushing and judging. Guilt is one of the feelings. That's called toxic guilt where he's judging himself but he hasn't done anything wrong. Guilt is an important feeling when we've done something wrong. Toxic guilt is when we're judging ourselves and we haven't done anything wrong." I recently came accross a podcast where Dr. Jordan B. Peterson was talking about Motivation and Discipline. His take on the distinction really stood out to me and here’s what i took from it: We have a tendancy to rely on motivation, and we wait for a moment to be inspired and energized. But here’s the truth, motivation is an UNRELIABLE COMPANION. Motivation is a fleeting emotional state subject to the winds of your circumstances and mood. How often does the “feeling” of motivation stays with you? It never lasts. If your progress is dependent on something unreliable as motivation, you’re setting yourself up for failure. However, on the other side, Discipline is DEPENDABLE. Discipline is not flashy nor dramatic. It does not sweep in like a wave of inspiration and it doesn’t make the task ahead of you seem any easier. But discipline is reliable, it is steady, and It transforms ambition into reality. Discipline is far more valuable than motivation, because it doesn’t rely on fleeting emotions. It ensures that you make progress each and every day no matter how small.

Our biggest enemy at times can be ourselves. The way that we think about ourselves, comparing ourselves to others, and how we view our progress we’ve made in our career, can put pressure on our mind and our body. Imposter syndrome is a similar feeling, a sense that you aren’t qualified and don’t belong with those you work with. A lack of trusting your skills. Episode #147 of the Quotable Podcast - “How to Use Intentionality to Trigger Success, with Michael O’Brien,” discusses important moments to recognize to continue growing our mind and body. In this episode they talk about self doubt and ways that can help manage it in the workplace. A few key takeaways that everyone should follow are: Surround yourself with those who will celebrate your successes, who will motivate you, and will be there to catch you at your lowest. Reflect on qualities that make you great, the flaws that you have and ways to grow, and finding small things you can appreciate in your life. Trust, Communication, and Collaboration. Not only with those around you, but most importantly with yourself. Trust your skills, communicate with your mind, collaborate to heal your mind and body. Sales is competitive and this makes it hard to not compare to others around you. Everyday, find affirmations from those around you, and affirm yourself of the skills you possess by appreciating the goals and achievements you’ve made. I’ve grown a lot by reflecting and I will continue to do so in my career to always push myself further.
