What are some key similarities between painting and recruitment..? 🎨🖌️ This week is the International Week of Happiness at Work, and to celebrate it my colleagues and I took part in a team building exercise which consisted of taking time out of our day to do some painting! There were some talented artists among us however I had never done it before so it got me thinking what is similar between that and what we do in Recruitment? - 👀 Attention to Detail: Painting taught me that I had to pay attention to the finer details including the textures, lighting, shading and colour blending of it all. Similarly, in recruitment you must have good observational skills to notice important qualities in candidates such as non-verbal cues during interviews and body language, their communication style as well as assessing if they'd be a good cultural fit for your client. -⌛Time and Patience: Painting is not quick! It took me a while to plan out what I wanted to draw, to mix my colours on my palette, to do a pre paint sketch of what I wanted and to then finely and slowly paint to not make a mistake. Quality recruitment takes time as well. Rushing to fill positions you may have can lead to poor quality hires and ultimately a waste of time, however investing time in understanding both the role/client requirements and the candidate can lead to a long-lasting and beneficial placement. -💡Intuition and Judgement: Whilst painting I had to rely on both my (lack of) technical skills as well as my intuition and judgement to know what improvements I could make, what colour to use where, and when it was completed. Similar to recruitment, of course data driven insights are essential however it is also important to use your initial judgement and intuition. Sometimes the right candidate may not be the obvious one on paper but after speaking to them and getting a deeper engagement over time, what they're looking for may align perfectly with the client. Overall I had a blast and whereas mine (number 4) may not have been the best, I learned a lot about painting and it related a lot to what I do on a day to day basis. Which of the paintings from below do YOU think is the best? What your painting taught me in recruitment is to 'Just keep swimming! just keep swimming!'🐟😂 FYI: I personally think number 6 is the best.

2moJosh Evans, your painting skills are certainly better than mine :) Painting 4 is not bad. I think number 7 is better than others
