🤔 What advice would you give to your younger self, knowing what you know now? If I could talk to my younger self, I'd say: Live in the moment— the past is gone, and the future is yet to come. Embrace today and say NO to distractions that pull you away from what truly matters. Grab every opportunity to learn and grow, even when it feels uncomfortable. Trust your instincts, but don't be afraid to seek advice from those you admire. Value the relationships you build—they will be your greatest assets. Yesterday, I ended my Piscine, the selection process at Campus 42 Madrid Fundación Telefónica. I learned some basic programming in C. I even organized my first full program with a Makefile, headers, structs, and source code. The last exam was 8 hours. You had to succeed at each task building a valid function before moving to the next with no assistance, not even error messages from the automated grader. I completed 6 tasks which I was very happy with. One task had me spinning my wheels for about 3 hours. I stuck with it and managed to find my way out. The 6th task I completed with 10 minutes left and I was just on the brink of getting the 7th. Others did better and many did worse. The experience was surprising. I didnt expect to learn so much without professors. The tasks we are given guide us, but with minimal information. Later we are all asking each other if we understood the task well and what each other's solutions were. We could not ask anyone outside our Piscine what the correct solution was, but we had to use our best judgement within the constraints of pure coding. Then we had to evaluate each other's work based on strictly defined criteria. This is truly peer to peer, one of the foundational principle in the programming world. The system is "gamified" but very seriously. You have to give evaluations in order to recieve evaluations. This means you are exposed to other people's solutions and they will see yours. Your tasks dont count until you have correctly solved the previous one. Your exams force you to do the same but with no assistance. Moving up a level in your projects means exams will be tougher. So if you race through without comprending completely, it will be tough to recall it later. Overall, I proved a lot to myself. If I am accepted I will begin courses in January and will last up 4 years. This is what peaked my interest. The courses are free and we can learn at our own pace and even hold down a job while we study.
