Have you ever implemented a solution that looked perfect on paper but failed to deliver the expected results? 🧐 One major obstacle to sustainability is that it tends to view the world in a linear way, where cause = effects. The limitation of this approach is that it doesn't consider that our world is a lot more complex than that. 2 + 2 doesn't always equal 4 because underlying interactions influence the results you get. Planning interventions gets increasingly challenging – you plan to get a 4 but end up with a 5. It makes you wonder – where did I go wrong? 😕 There's a different approach enabling you to look at the world in a more holistic way: Systems thinking. In the past five years, I've used systems thinking to help me understand the root causes of sustainability challenges instead of focusing on surface-level symptoms. 🤯 It's completely transformed the way I see the world. Building a Sustainable Future for Businesses I'm thrilled to have played a key role in developing a style tool designed to guide businesses through the process of creating their sustainability strategy. With a focus on integrating the Sustainable Development Goals, this tool helps businesses tackle some of today’s biggest challenges, like limited resources and volatile financial markets. In this project, I utilized my expertise in sustainability, strategic leadership, and the circular economy. By combining these areas of focus, I was able to co-develop a solution that supports businesses in building resilience while positioning themselves for growth. It’s more than just sustainability for the sake of the planet—though that’s a huge part of it.
