Mitigating climate change through #ClimateAction is thankfully high on the social agenda. But climate mitigation must be accompanied by adaption strategies that address the harm from current, and future, effects of climate change. For children, this could mean providing continued access to health, education, nutrition and water during climate-related shocks. At #COP29 this year, UNICEF is inviting private sector to join conversations, and advocate for urgent increase in #ClimateFinance for adaption strategies. #Climate justice also recognizes that while “no country is immune”, impacts vary between rich and poor countries. And poor countries, lacking means to handle, are the worst sufferers, even though they contribute least to the crisis. This unfairness highlights unequal historical responsibility that countries bear in relation to the climate crisis. #ClimateJustice!

A step forward for youth participation in climate change 🌍 The Committee of Ministers has adopted its first-ever recommendation to empower youth participation in addressing climate change! This significant move acknowledges the challenges young people face in advocating for a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. On the day when the recommendation was adopted, we asked youth representatives what this recommendation was about and how it can bring change for future generations. Hear from youth! l like and support the Council of Europe synergy between the human rights, the youth involvement in the state and regional affairs and the climate change agenda. I find this campaign could be the most efficient to initiate at the grassroots level , by the support of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe

To tackle poverty and protect our planet, countries must enhance resilience to climate change and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The World Bank's Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDRs) aid in aligning development and climate efforts in 72 nations. These reports highlight the importance of investing in education, health, and infrastructure, especially in vulnerable lower-income countries facing significant productivity losses. Wealthier nations must also take action to reduce emissions. A people-centered approach, supported by the CCDRs, can promote inclusive growth while addressing climate challenges. How are climate change and unpaid care work linked? Climate change increases unpaid care work and to be effective and fair climate action needs to take care into account. We’re co-hosting with research partners Fundación Avina, UNRISD and others, this vital discussion on care and climate and women’s adaptive strategies, at #UNCSW68. https://bit.ly/3Pf8q69 Global Alliance for Care / Alianza Global por los Cuidados UN Women

Public concern about #ClimateChange is high in both rich and poor countries. As #governments struggle to #commit to, and #plan, #ClimateAction, the #ClimateCrisis grows ever more urgent. Yet, to date, most efforts to engage the #public in the #climate fight have avoided raising the economically critical activities which would have the greatest impact on #emissions. This failure to effectively empower #citizens is matched with continued support of structures that perpetuate a business-as-usual approach. Unless the dormant, proven power of voluntary #PublicEngagement is brought into play, it is hard to see how we will avoid the need for more invasive, less voluntary interventions in public lives, not much further down the road.#ClimateAwareness #ClimateEngagement IPCC UN Climate Change Green Climate Fund UN Climate Change Green Climate Fund UN Sustainable Development Group United Nations African Union UN SDG Action Campaign The World Bank Melissa Fleming Mafalda Duarte Inger Andersen Simon Stiell

UN Environment Programme: GOAL 13: Climate action — Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts #climatechange continues to wreak havoc both on #nature and #people. In the arctic #icesheets are dwindling causing #searises which affect coastal communities to suffer in many forms: properties loss, relocation, loss of livelihoods and lives in worst case scenario. If we jointly implement below SDG13’s targets on climate action — we would be better positioned to enhance our abilities to adapt and mitigate climate shocks. 1️⃣Target 13.1: Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries. 2️⃣Target 13.2: Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning. 3️⃣Target 13.3: Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning. 4️⃣Target 13.a: Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible. 5️⃣Target 13.b: Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalized. communities. #climateAction #SDG13 #UNEP More 👇 https://lnkd.in/dK_Xu3d2

As leaders, climate experts and advocates from around the world gather in Baku in the second week of #COP29, the co-author of our new Pacific Girls in a Changing Climate report Kavita Naidu spoke to the ABC’s News Breakfast program yesterday on how rapidly increasing, severe climate disasters are completely reshaping adolescent girls’ lives in Pacific nations. The research found that the climate crisis is impacting adolescent girls disproportionately, causing immense hardship: 50% of girls surveyed said they were missing out of school due to climate events, while almost 20% said they are experiencing food insecurity because of the climate crisis. Many feel their physical and mental health, safety and wellbeing is under threat. Today, the Australian Government made a $50 million pledge towards the Fund Responding to Loss and Damage – an important step that must be one part of broader action to responding to the climate crisis at the scale and speed needed. We all have an obligation to make sure that we do not pass on the escalating impacts of climate change to low-income countries or future generations.
