How a Company Sold 10 Million Units of an Outdated Product? Through Nostalgia Bait In 2016, Nintendo, the Japanese video game company pulled a move no one saw coming. They brought back the NES, an '80s classic video game console, in the form of the NES Classic Edition. The demand was so much that the company had to stop sales due to inability to meet them, only to resume them 2 years later. All of this is thanks to one powerful strategy: nostalgia. By tapping into the emotional connection millions of people had with their childhood gaming memories, Nintendo created a demand for something most would consider outdated. The NES Classic wasn’t about cutting-edge technology; it was about reconnecting with a simpler time when blowing into game cartridges was part of the fun. This isn’t just about video games—it’s a lesson for all brands: Emotion sells. When you can get your audience to feel something, you’re no longer selling a product—you’re selling an experience. Sometimes, the smartest move forward is to look back and remind people why they fell in love with your brand in the first place. #NostalgiaMarketing #BrandStrategy #BusinessInsights #Nintendo #ConsumerBehavior #Marketing

Lessons I learned from #Nintendo 🎮 There was a brillant Interview wird #ShigeruMiyamoto’s in the The New York Times Talking about success with Nintendo. It is a masterclass in creating iconic intellectual property (#IP). I read it. So you dont have to. Here’s what we can learn: 🔑 Originality Wins: Instead of copying industry trends, Miyamoto focuses on unique experiences. This is why Nintendo’s characters like #Mario and #Zelda stand out. Lesson? Be different! 🎬 Expand Beyond the Game: From #games to movies and theme parks, Nintendo stretches its IP to reach a broader audience. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a global hit! Take your IP beyond its original platform. 💡 Resilience is Key: Even after the #Wii U’s flop, Nintendo came back strong with the Switch. Keep pushing your IP, even after failure. Innovation doesn’t happen without persistence! 🌍 Global Brand Building: Nintendo transformed from a gaming company to a global entertainment brand. Successful IP isn’t just about one medium; it’s about creating a cultural phenomenon that lives across media. Follow Miyamoto’s path—create, adapt, and expand your IP into the world!

I just came across some thrilling news—Nintendo is launching an invite application for a beta playtest of its Nintendo Switch Online service. This is a significant move that showcases Nintendo's commitment to enhancing user experience and staying competitive in the ever-evolving gaming landscape. The opportunity for players to participate in beta testing not only allows them to contribute to the development process but also builds a stronger connection between the company and its community. It’s a win-win! The buzz around this initiative has me thinking about how important it is for tech companies to engage with their user base. It’s not just about pushing out products; it’s about fostering a community that feels involved and valued. As we see more gaming companies follow suit, it’s clear that the future of tech lies in collaboration and feedback. I’m looking forward to seeing how this beta playtest unfolds and what new features Nintendo might roll out based on user insights. If you’re a Nintendo fan, keep an eye out for your invite! #Nintendo #SwitchOnline #BetaTesting #GamingNews #TechInnovation #Tech

Yesterday, we dropped a quick look at our upcoming series #Nintendo64Quest and we’ve been inundated by the response. Let’s rewind a bit: 10 years ago I shot a film called #NintendoQuest that grabbed a ton of headlines given its release was timed for the 30th anniversary of Nintendo’s NES console. The film, funded via kickstarter and personal bank accounts, was acquired by a number of platforms and has been reupped several times over around the world. So why make a sequel to a documentary? And one that’s a series? In the last 16-months, Nintendo Quest demand has soared through the roof on various platforms and a whole new fan-base has discovered it. This was enough to have conversations with current platforms about a new iteration, but with more content to offer. Enter: Nintendo 64 Quest. A look back at Nintendo’s first foray into 3D gaming and a collector’s current day quest to acquire all 296 games in 14 days with no online purchases. The 13-episode series will debut on Super Channel/Ginx in Canada this November and roll out from there. As a result, we can now pivot this format to virtually any pop culture segment and document it in a fun, fresh present day lense that escapes the trappings of a traditional historical doc. We have several meetings lined up about new self-contained series and variations going forward all in the gaming space. Pretty exciting that my first feature doc has ignited a whole new wave of opportunities a decade later. #GameOn
