Should you take the lump sum option from your pension? Pros: - Control the amount of distributions each year - Decide how it's invested - Be able to change your beneficiary - Know that your beneficiary will receive that lump sum Cons: - You might outlive your money - You might make bad investment decisions or be at the mercy of a bad investment environment - You might have a hard time controlling your spending Advisor friends- Did I miss any?

February was a great month for Pension Finance, at least it was for those sponsors who have been in what we refer to as a naive portfolio like the 60/40 mix that was the rule of thumb in the 1980s. On the other hand, for those portfolios that are heavily hedged or de-risked, progress has been steady but quite slow. In this month's update, we explore the potential benefits of a more aggressive portfolio and perhaps being ahead of the trend.
