What would Salesforce do? 🙏 Unless your company is on the cusp of hitting $5, $10, or $20B in revenue, this is a dumb question. The reality is you're not Salesforce (I mean, unless you actually are). When you're asking: - What should our marketing look like? - What should our GTM be? - Who is our ICP? - How should we message? ...comparing yourself to a giant like Salesforce isn’t a helpful starting point. Category giants like Salesforce, Google, etc. can play by different rules, and their practices generally shouldn’t be replicated by smaller companies. When they are, the result is: - crappy messaging - deflated GTM teams - paper thin presence across all channels and segments - and general disenchantment. Instead, try drawing inspiration from ✨ realistic ✨ points of inspiration, like: - Companies that serve your ICP, - Companies who are at a similar revenue band (or just ahead of you), - Companies who have been around as long as your company, - and other companies that look even remotely like you. There you can find inspiration that might actually work for your business. (You'll also keep your PMM from wanting to pull their hair out 💖 )

Marketing changed a Salesforce field Sales added... Things like this happened all the time. It went back and forth as a hot topic wasting everyone's time. As the teams grew and software became more siloed, it didn't get any better. In fact it got worse. At my next job I learned about the value of "Centralized Operations". We had a single team that knew and understood all the tech the teams were using. We solved all the operations and software issues for the business teams. It was super efficient. It wasn't perfect and brought it's own issues (especially as we grew past 1000 Employees) but it was WAY better for the small company. ----------------------------- I help small businesses setup the right tech platform for today's needs and tomorrow's growth.

98% of advice on Linkedin is B.S. Or irrelevant. Or stolen. So how do you find the 2% that matters? I've always followed a simple process to identify the real 'thought leaders' who deliver real value based on proven success. Look for someone who has truly been the agent of change at organizations or in situations that mirror my current reality. This week we had Jason Miller join the pod, and yes, his cheat is impactful. But even more so is the evidence of where he has deployed that cheat with demonstrable success. Adobe Marketo, LinkedIn, Microsoft (before they were cool again), ActiveCampaign - these are all household names in B2B SaaS these days - but they certainly were not before Jason (and his teams) got their mitts on them.
