Imagine if the Catholic Church pitched you like this: “We’ve got a weekly meet-up. We livestream it sometimes. There’s content including a big book we read every week. There’s also school on Sunday where we teach you some of the key lessons. Want to join?” Remember what Simon Sinek tells us. People don’t care what you do.  They care why you do it. That’s especially true for communities. At this point, there’s about 37,423 communities for B2B professionals. A lot do the same basic type of things. Some of them are even free. So why would you ever join Pavilion? Because of what we believe. Because of why we do what we do. We’re not building features.  We’re building a movement. Aligned around a set of beliefs. It’s not about the dinners. It’s not about the networking. (Or it’s not *just* about the networking.) It’s not about the big summits or the annual conference. It’s not about the searchable Member Directory. It’s not about a real-time 24/7 community where you can get any question answered in minutes. It’s not about the compensation benchmarks which you’ll absolutely need as the economy picks up. It’s not about about the targeted 1x1 introductions across the community to meet exactly the people you need to meet. All of those things are great. But that’s not why we’re here. SO. WHY ARE WE HERE? It’s about what we all BELIEVE. Member of Pavilion believe the following things: 1. We build relationships not transactions 2. We give before we get 3. We play a big long game not a short small game Members of Pavilion write you back. Members of Pavilion offer to lend a hand. Members of Pavilion will walk you through their playbook. Members of Pavilion will take care of you when you’re in a tough spot and you’re feeling like your company didn’t treat you the right way. That’s our North Star. That’s our competitive advantage. That’s our moat. We believe in building a different kind of business world.  If what I’m saying resonates with you, I encourage you to join us. We are a community and a company that is by no means perfect but does real things, helps real people, and changes real lives. That’s something you can be proud of. They care about why you do it, but they more often care about what’s in it for them.

Solid Sam Jacobs. Everything is getting so easy to set up these days, the only real differentiation is in the people doing it and why.

This is such a powerful reminder of the importance of purpose and belief in building a meaningful community.

In the words of Seth Godin, "People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories, and magic." Pavilion is about creating those meaningful connections and experiences that transcend mere transactions. Consider how your startup can build similar relationships.
