I am very excited to announce the official launch of Nuclear Jobs Canada (NJC), a job board by the nuclear industry, for the nuclear industry. We've been working on this project for a few months now, ensuring that it's built in a way that minimizes (or hopefully eliminates) the time necessary for CNA members to have their jobs featured. NJC will feature a daily updated list of nuclear-related jobs across Canada from the full CNA membership. In the coming weeks we'll be looking forward to launching a campaign to promote NJC with universities, colleges, organizations focused on Indigenous employment, and other groups including veterans, people with disabilities, and new Canadians. The nuclear energy industry is growing - Jobs increased in 2023 across a variety of industries covering professional and business services, utilities, manufacturing and construction, mining and extraction, wholesale trade and distribution and other services. 2. The nuclear energy sector is diverse - 3 out of 4 workers were non-white, above the national average. - Veterans accounted for 9% of the workforce given their strong background in nuclear energy, leadership and management skills. 3. The nuclear energy workforce needs younger workers - 60% of works are between 30 and 54. - A significant amount of workers will be retiring soon requiring a younger generation to step in if we are to achieve our net zero ambitions and offering many opportunities for younger workers. 4. Nuclear energy needs more qualified workers - 90% of professional and business services employers experience at least some challenges finding qualified workers. - A pipeline of young talent will be essential to deploying next generation reactors - The FY2024 spending bill directed $100M to help identify, develop and implement new training programs at universities, trade schools and 20year colleges to address hiring needs. 5. Nuclear energy has a strong union presence - 19% of workers were represented by a union in 2023 - Local community benefits are higher than most other sectors 6. Nuclear energy workers are well-paid - Given the technical and high-demand, the nuclear energy sector offers higher compensation compared to many other sectors

We anticipate an increasing demand for reliable low-carbon electricity and we know nuclear can meet those demands. The concern frequently raised is whether or not we'll have enough skilled workers to support that. The availability of skilled workers will not be a constraint on the development and deployment of new nuclear in Canada. There will be some short term challenges such as design engineering but with project commitment, planning and continued collaboration we can recruit and train the skilled people that will be required.
