The first week of summer vacation for my kids is here. We're gearing up for summer camps and activities. This time of year takes me back to my college internship, where I ran sports camps for the local YMCA. We started and ended each day by reviewing the core values: Caring Respect Honesty Responsibility. We would talk about these as we opened the day, and at the end of the day, we would ask if anyone saw any of the campers displaying these behaviors. Those who did were rewarded with a little prize and a round of applause. If organizations reward and recognize core values, they will continue to permeate through the organization. Think about what behaviors are being rewarded and emulated and which ones you want to be magnified.

Meet Emily Carpenter, another amazing Advancement intern this summer! 🤩 Here’s a little info on her: Where are you from? Ohio. Best advice someone has given you? During a Cultivate Lunch and Learn a OneHoper gave great advice saying, spend less time figuring out your life and more time living it. What are you looking forward to the most this year? I’m looking forward to actively waiting on the Lord as He directs my steps post-university. What’s one thing that could instantly make your day better? A good laugh. Who inspires you? Kelly Solli, my friend and mentor who humbly walks with the Lord. She inspires me to draw near to God in both the joys and sorrows of life. What’s the most impressive thing you can do? I attentively listen to instructions and can pick up on the details. What are you passionate about? Helping and supporting others as they pursue God’s purpose for their life. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Chicken. Favorite part about the internship? Learning about Outcome-based ministry and using this approach in projects with other interns.

⭐ Congratulations to our Manchester Interns for reaching the first milestone of their 8-week summer internship at Jacobs ⭐ Today they completed their first programme deliverable, giving some brilliant presentations to some of our first year graduates. We’re excited to see how they continue to develop and grow during the remainder of the internship. We’re proud to say that their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas are helping us to challenge today and reinvent tomorrow! 🚀 Special thanks to Niamh McClean, Benjamin Fadele, and Tyler Berks for helping to organise and run our event today alongside Josh Sansom and Noareen Zaidi for their hard work in running the program 🙌🏻

To quote our founder's comment on Daniel Levey's post below: "The avg cost of living for a single person in LA -- before rent -- is $1,337.80/mo. Avg rent for a studio apt in LA is $1622/mo & avg for a 1 BR is $2068. Let's assume $1300/mo for housing with a roommate situation -- the avg to stay alive in LA is roughly $2,650/mo. To meet this number, you need to make at minimum $16.56/hr If you're making $19/hr for a FULL-TIME role (160 hrs/mo), you're taking home $3,040/mo before taxes. Remove 15% (low) for taxes, and you're at $31k/yr, which means your net average hourly pay is actually $14.91/hr. That math ain't mathing 🤔" #PeopleOverProfit #PeopleFirst #StayinAlive #PayLivingWages #DoBetter #PayLivingWages 👉The #Impactivists

I know it’s a paid internship, but $19/hr isn’t going to cut it in LA or any other city. David Zaslav made $49.7 million in 2023.
