Venture capitalists on a panel at MedCity News' INVEST conference in Chicago provided insights on the current #healthcarefunding environment, their views on AI, and why diversity still really matters. Key takeaways: 💹 The #digitalhealth funding market has more discipline, seeking founders who are paying more attention to unit economics and contribution margin and thinking critically about the milestones in their business and KPIs. 💹 Most investors want to help their portfolio companies sustainably accelerate profits and build the networks, such as #healthsystem connections, necessary for eventual commercialization. 💹 When considering #healthAI startups, a key question is asked: Is this a product or a company? AI should be an integral part of the core business rather than a trendy add-on. 💹 Diversity still really does matter. A VC on the panel said in all of the term sheets her firm signs, there is a clause that stipulates #diversity requirements for its portfolio companies. https://lnkd.in/gqsJEHBk

VCs and LPs: Time to Embrace DeepTech's Long-Term Potential From AI and quantum computing to clean energy and advanced materials, DeepTech companies are solving some of the world’s most critical challenges, with the potential to redefine industries. But to succeed, these ventures need long-term investment and strategic patience, something the traditional VC model may not always provide even more in 2024. 🚀 Why DeepTech Demands a New Approach Given the current lack of M&As and the resulting liquidity challenges for LPs, 2024 is the perfect time to invest in DeepTech. Unlike other startups, DeepTech ventures offer a solid and less risky output over time thanks to IP, providing LPs with strong long-term returns. 💡 A Strategic Opportunity for VCs and LPs The shift to more patient capital doesn’t just benefit startups—it’s an incredible opportunity for investors. As LPs increasingly understand the long-term value DeepTech can deliver, there’s growing momentum for funds that can support the sector through extended timelines. In fact, many LPs are already looking for ways to tap into the transformational potential of DeepTech while managing risk over the long run. According to PitchBook (2024), investors are becoming more open to models that focus on strategic value and extended growth cycles, especially in high-impact areas like AI, sustainability, and biotech. 🌍 The Future of DeepTech is Now DeepTech is not just a buzzword—it’s the future of innovation. And as we look toward 2024, it’s clear: VCs who embrace this shift and adapt their strategies will be the ones at the forefront of the next wave of transformative breakthroughs. The opportunity is immense. With the right investment models in place, we can drive not only financial returns but also create lasting positive impact across industries. Is your fund ready to seize the DeepTech opportunity? #DeepTech #VentureCapital #LPs #InvestmentStrategy #Innovation #AI #QuantumComputing #CleanTech #FutureOfInvesting

This is going to be the next big thing in Israeli tech… According to one of Israel’s most active VCs, the most promising investment vertical in 2025 isn't going to be just about the next big idea or exciting opportunity… It's going to be about investing in people and teams who are resilient, have a grand vision to change the world, and are committed to creating value. As Yair Vardi of Fusion VC spoke about on our livestream, currently we're witnessing #AI become an integral infrastructure layer for startups. This trend excites him as it opens up possibilities for automating traditional, labor-intensive industries such as insurance, transportation, supply chain, agriculture, and even healthcare. The real opportunity lies in automating these manual processes. He spoke about how they’re seeing a surge of companies tackling these real-world problems, which is a promising sign. When you see 'old school' industries seeking modern solutions, that's where the opportunity lies. Interested in insights such as these from the Startup Nation’s next generation of leaders? Despite the turmoil in the venture market over the last two years, we have seen great deal flow. We’re proud to highlight several recent investments: Deep Cognition, FreightPOP, Jolie, OpsLab, Vivifi Medical. We are excited to support the continued innovation of each of these companies. As we look to the second half of 2024, it remains to be seen what the market’s steady state will be. We’re observing the following trends: 1. AI continues to dominate the conversation. But sustained value remains uncertain, as current applications may not deliver the outsized returns needed to justify costly infrastructure investments. 2. Private companies continue to focus on fundamentals and profitability. 3. Strategic bridge rounds have risen for later-stage startups as M&A markets remain suppressed. 4. Investor-friendly financing terms remain due to low fundraising activity and exit opportunities.
