This is an interesting article because EHR companies, like Epic and Oracle's Cerner, have made siloing data a major part of their business model. Overall, I like EPIC’s ability to review records from other EPIC shops. It also has a nod to interoperability with its “Care Everywhere“ feature. However, this is often a disorganized and outdated collection of information. Using it requires a ninja level of both tech expertise and medical knowledge possessed mainly by younger physicians and chief residents. I am a fan (and advisor) of companies like Zus Health focused on user-friendly, comprehensive, and up-to-date interoperable health care data tools.

Epic failure. An outdated, bloated GUI with more word salad than I care to see. Spinning circles, endless latency, and questionable veracity. When is the last time you used Albuterol. Says here it is active. Patient...8 years ago. Need I say more on this high level garbage?

Regardless of its gaps, my experience is that Epic's CareEverywhere is highly functional with other Epic orgs and somewhat functional with non-Epic orgs. I have seen other vendors' interoperability solutions and what I have seen is far inferior, even when they interoperate with a provider that uses the same system. I don't think one needs to be a millennial born with a cell phone in your crib to use it. For example, I regularly see notes and labs from other orgs in-line with similar data sourced from my org. The content just appears in logical places without any extra effort on my part. I also think it is a bit rich that the comments come from an Oracle leader. They have a reputation for acquiring other software vendors and making them part of a Cerner/Oracle solution. Unfortunately, often the new solution doesn't even interoperate internally within the Cerner/Oracle suite of software. John Dayton, MD, MBA The irony here is rich…priceless, in fact. Becker’s reporting on a blog post by a VP in response to a hit job by BI. An elementary school playground fight between bullies. Kenny v Judy! And adding to the jr high fun and games Congress decides to hold hearings. Oh, wait…Congress doesn’t hold hearings on VA EHR roll out and implementation?? Does anyone even watch C Span anymore? Nvm, just let everyone deflect and distract on all channels… Putting aside all the irony, remember the first rule of Fight Club? You DO NOT talk….Kenny forgot, I guess. Even my snarky comments are a waste of everyone’s time…. At the end of the day, EHRs are part of the ecosystem. Nuff said. Maybe a call from the DOJ one day will create the needed changes…🤔😵💫🤯

I don't care if I'm repeating what I just posted. This is too fitting: Prior to 2010, the 2 biggest barriers to EHR adoption were high costs & poor usability. Meaningful Use was a solution for the former, but did nothing for the latter. To physicians, usability posed the biggest threat to patient care time. 15 years later and it's still a problem! How is it not the root cause to burnout & staff shortage? I mean, no wonder they refuse to go public. If the market had a say in Epic's value, they'd share the same fate as Cerner did in 2022.
