Here is an article that was recently posted that describes my journey as a male nurse and the opportunities that exist for men in the nursing profession. For me, nursing has been the best profession I could have hoped for and I am proud to have been able to care for so many people throughout my career. I would encourage anyone who has an interest in caring for others to become a nurse! It is truly an honor to care for others in their time of need. https://lnkd.in/gU79-CYc
Thank you for sharing your story, John Voight, MSN, RN, NEA-BC It has been wonderful to watch your journey! One of my nephews has started his nursing career through the Army and is currently stationed in San Antonio. Maybe your paths will cross one day. 😊
Thank you for sharing your inspiring journey into nursing, I wholeheartedly agree that we need more men in this noble profession. As you mentioned, nursing is evolving into a highly technical profession with diverse opportunities . This should be highlighted when speaking to young men, showcasing the various paths they can take within nursing, such as leadership or specialized fields. Your roles and your commitment to serving as a role model is wonderful . It is so important to continue to advocate for a more robust and diverse nursing workforce that reflects the needs of our communities. Allow me to add that it is also crucial that we not only encourage them to pursue nursing but also consider how we introduce the field to students in high school. Many teenagers receive the first introduction to nursing through CNA work n a SNF. As we all know that is a commendable career in a tough environment. Placing young students in this setting can be overwhelming. They might not yet be ready for that environment, and this can deter them from considering nursing as a viable career path in the future I would love to support you in continuing to get this message out and watching the next generation embrace this wonderful profession.
Thank you for sharing your inspiring journey. It's encouraging to see more men stepping into nursing and highlighting the diverse opportunities within the profession. Your advocacy for caring and compassionate work is vital in attracting a broader range of individuals to this essential field. How do you think we can further promote the value of nursing to men who might be considering the profession? Your insights could spark a meaningful discussion.
When I started my healthcare career some 50 years ago, female doctors were about as rare as male nurses, especially in specialty fields like neurosurgery. While there is still imbalance, today women constitute nearly 40% of U.S. doctors. Medicine is a stronger profession as a result. The medical profession has much to learn from the nursing profession, but in this area nursing should learn from medicine. As John points out in this article, it would be a win for the profession and a win for the men who join the profession.
Wow, you had every reason to stop, but didn't - you pushed through and persevered. Very empowering, thank you for sharing!
Great article on your nursing journey John Voight, MSN, RN, NEA-BC. I discovered nursing at age 22 pursued my RN because I wanted a career that combined stability, growth opportunities, and the ability to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Nursing offers flexibility, competitive pay, and the chance to provide compassionate care, which has been deeply fulfilling.
Thanks for sharing this, John Voight, MSN, RN, NEA-BC. And for your leadership on the topic.
