Sometimes you just get a burst of good news out of the blue that validates what you do. In the last few days, I had one former student write to tell me how much they enjoyed my book (Inside the Competitor’s Mindset), another who told me their team was going to read it for a skill-building book group, and a third connection (not a former-student) who wrote to thank me for the podcast I recorded a few years ago (Econ on the Go). Completely unexpected, yet immensely appreciated. You always hope you are making an impact. The validation isn’t the only reason to do what you do, but it sure brings joy and reinvigorates the effort.
I'll share another one with you. We had lunch before I left WashU and I can still remember our conversation. You're a terrific listener, supporter, and advocate. Things that appear small are often quite huge.
Amazing! I will say your class is still one of the ones I fondly remember. Just the other day I was doing some excel calculations on something related to AI and identified the “marginal point” which brought me back to your class and the discussions we had on marginal equilibrium! Hope all is well.
You impact so many, John... both students and colleagues! Grateful for you!
John Horn For every one person who reached out to let you know, 100+ people found value in your work but didn't take the initiative to tell you. Message: Be the one to tell an author, podcast host, or other creator that you value what they do. It means a lot.
How awesome! What a testament to you that they took time to send notes! Lucky to have you as a professor!
No question about it, nothing better!
And all well deserved John!

2dI always loved how you were able to teach the theory and how it applied to the real world in a way that was easy to understand. Your classes were definitely some of my favorites!
