Antibiotic-resistant infections have been called one of the top global public health threats by the World Health Organization. Bacteriophages are an alternative to antibiotics but are challenging to store and transport...until now. McMaster University biomedical engineers including Zeinab Hosseinidoust, Tohid Didar and Fereshteh Bayat, along with a team from Université Laval, have discovered a way to store the phages in a dry tablet form that takes up very little space, can be kept at room temperature, is easy to ship and lights up when bacteria is added that it can kill.
