As elections unfold around the world it is essential to understand and share how democracies' defenders, and solutions oriented leaders can and do win elections, even in heartland regions that often respond to resentment-driven, nationalist leaders. That is why our new report "Democracy Can Win at the Ballot Box" is essential reading. It culls the insights from effective pro-democracy campaigners in the US, UK and Europe. It's the latest from our Heartlands Transformation Initiative, and just out from Jefferson Educational Society & Eisenhower Institute. #Democracy #elections #populism

After a decade of researching the radical left, my research agenda for the coming years will focus on 'right-wing populist parties'. They're winning elections everywhere but we still know so little about the class forces and interests they actually represent. In this piece for The Loop, I make the case for a 'material' turn in the study of 'populism'. https://lnkd.in/eBfeBVzQ

Every vote is a voice that shapes our collective future. Let's exercise our democratic right and responsibility by participating in elections. Together, we can make a difference. Voting based on principles of development rather than religion is crucial for building inclusive and progressive societies. Let's prioritize policies and candidates that focus on advancing education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic growth for all. Voting as a responsible citizen means carefully considering the issues, researching candidates' platforms, and casting your vote in a way that aligns with your values and the greater good of society. It's about being informed, engaged, and proactive in shaping the future of your community and country. #ResponsibleCitizen #CivicDuty #VoteForDevelopment #InclusiveProgress #Vote #Democracy

An exceptional paper by our analyst, Miruna Ciobotaru, about youth political participation and community involvement at national and regional levels. Having a huge number of local, national, and European elections in 2024, and around 50 countries heading to the polls worldwide, E-ARC tackled a hard topic: the drivers of youth political disengagement and effective ways to reverse the decline in youth turnout. Polls. They’re imperfect. But they remain essential bridges for understanding what moves our communities, what concerns them and how we can better serve them. And yet, pollsters are unable to keep up with the fastest-growing voting electorate in the nation. “When you have communities that effectively have been under-voiced in that vehicle, then the fear is, of course, that has an impact on that community,” explains David Dutwin of NORC at the University of Chicago, which has been collaborating with AAPI Data and Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) to fill the dearth of information on the Asian Vote, which could be the margin of victory in 2024. US elections: Pakistani-American Salman Bhojani wins in Texas. Pakistani-American Democrat Salman Bhojani secured a strong re-election to the Texas State Assembly, in US elections 2024. Bhojani, who first entered the assembly in 2022, has focused on vital issues like healthcare, education, and business development while advocating for immigrant rights. His victory is seen as a key milestone in South Asian American political representation. While Bhojani’s win highlights the growing political involvement of Pakistani Americans, Republican Aaron Bashir, the only Pakistani-American candidate running for Congress, faced a setback in Pennsylvania, losing a tight congressional race. Bhojani's success reflects an increasing trend of South Asian Americans actively participating in shaping U.S. politics, marking a significant shift toward greater diversity in political leadership. give hashtags #SalmanBhojani #USElections2024 #PakistaniAmericans #SouthAsianRepresentation #TexasPolitics #ImmigrantRights #DiversityInPolitics #PoliticalMilestone #PakistaniAmericanPride #SouthAsianVoices

Elections are done and the votes have been counted. What now? In this article Patrick Kulati and I unpack and discuss participation beyond the ballot box. One thing is certain - public participation does not start and end with voting, as democracy is experienced in between election cycles. As citizens our interest and engagement in the political affairs of this nation 🇿🇦 should not simmer down as the election cycle has come to an end #democracy #elections

Together for Democracy and Diversity: A Look Back and a Look Ahead 🗳️🌍 On September 15, we celebrated the International Day of Democracy – a reminder of the importance of protecting our democratic values. Earlier this year, we launched the business initiative for democracy and diversity (widv.de) in partnership with community4you AG, with the goal of actively standing up for the values that define our society. 🗝️ Key political events, such as the European elections and state elections in Saxony and Thuringia, are now behind us. In the run-up to these elections, we worked to raise the visibility of the business community’s voice through various actions, highlighting our stand on democracy and diversity. On September 12, we held our first network meeting after the elections, reflecting on how we, as a network, have expressed our position and clearly communicated what we stand for. Looking ahead: The challenges remain significant, and we are committed to continuing our work to promote democratic values. A key milestone lies ahead with next year’s federal elections. Our commitment is unwavering, as we believe that lasting change is only possible through collective efforts. We remain dedicated to bringing together more companies and networks – including across regions. 🌱 Let’s keep moving forward – because democracy is everyone’s responsibility! #Democracy #Diversity #community4you #NetworkForDemocracy #Solidarity #Engagement #FederalElection #BusinessForDemocracy
