"At my family farm in the Central Valley, we’re in the process of installing an anaerobic digester in collaboration with BRIGHTMARK, the future operator of our Chowchilla Circularity Center. These systems essentially use sealed, oxygen-free tanks that “digest” cow manure and other organic waste with the help of naturally occurring bacteria, breaking the waste down into biomethane, water and fertilizer. Instead of letting the biomethane escape into the atmosphere, as it otherwise would, digesters clean and compress it into renewable natural gas (RNG) so that it can be used as transportation fuel or as a source of energy to heat and power local homes." Agriculture has the answers – delivering Australia’s carbon neutral future fuel Our CEO Richard Gorman spoke at the Bioenergy Australia Renewable Fuels Week event in Canberra today, sharing our plans for a carbon-neutral future fuel made from agricultural and urban food waste. Our energy project in the Scenic Rim Agricultural Precinct at Kalbar will deliver new revenue streams for farmers and convert waste into renewable natural gas, electricity and fertiliser. The Renewable Natural Gas we generate via Anaerobic Digestion will be used as a diesel replacement in trucks and buses and can also be upgraded to bio-genic CO2 for use in beverage manufacturing. The transport sector is the third-largest source of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions, contributing 21% of the national emissions in 2023 and is on track to be the country’s largest emitter by 2030. Fully developed our Kalbar Bioenergy Facility will produce 1.6PJ of RNG a year – that’s enough to fuel 234 trucks travelling 100,000km/year. It’s a direct replacement for diesel and on average reduces carbon emissions by 300% compared to diesel. Our model is real and reliable and it’s already working in Europe, America and Canada. 🚛 In 2021 64% of European biogas production came from agricultural materials and there’s now 1322 biomethane-producing facilities in Europe. 🚛 In California the use of RNG as a transportation fuel has increased 169% over the past five years and in 2022 RNG use in California displaced 4.34-million metric tonnes of Co2e. We’ve done the planning work to build Queensland’s first on-farm bio-methane plant and we are confident we have solution to unlock this opportunity for other parts of regional Australia. Our plan is: · Scalable & repeatable · Value-adds waste streams · Delivers farmers diversified revenue · Unlocks a new industry for regional Australia · Reduces synthetic fertiliser use · Replaces diesel with a carbon-neutral fuel It’s a huge opportunity for Australian agriculture and Queensland will lead the way. 🌍 Turning Waste into Clean Energy: A Step Towards a Greener Future 🌱 It’s inspiring to see industry giants like JBS USA taking bold steps toward sustainability. Their partnership with GreenGasUSA to convert cow and chicken waste into renewable energy is a prime example of how we can leverage available resources for a cleaner future. As we continue to seek alternatives to fossil fuels, enhancing the methane content in biogas is crucial. Microorganisms are at the heart of this process, playing a pivotal role in maximizing the energy potential of organic waste in digesters. The more big players adopt these innovative solutions, the closer we get to a truly sustainable energy landscape. Curious about how to improve the efficiency of your own digester? There's a world of potential waiting to be unlocked. #Sustainability #Biogas #RenewableEnergy #WasteToEnergy #Innovation #GreenEnergy https://lnkd.in/dVzz4DsP

🍀 Driving Decarbonization: Insights from Ireland’s National Biomethane Strategy Published this week, Ireland’s National Biomethane Strategy offers valuable lessons for advancing sustainable energy. This comprehensive approach is a blueprint for achieving ambitious decarbonization goals. 📍Ambitious Objectives - Scaling Production: Targeting 5.7 TWh of biomethane annually by 2030. - Decarbonization Goals: Aiming to replace 10% of Ireland’s fossil gas demand (current usage) with biomethane by 2030, with a growing share as fossil gas demand decreases. - Industry Development: Building a sustainable biomethane industry. - Biodiversity and Sustainability: Aligning with biodiversity action plans and contributing to a circular bioeconomy. 📍Strategic Approaches - Sustainability: Emphasizing environmentally sustainable production with a dedicated Biomethane Sustainability Charter. - Feedstock Utilization: Leveraging sustainable feedstocks like grass silage and animal slurries. - Regulatory and Financial Support: Ensuring robust policies and financial incentives to boost production. 📍Learning from European Success - Optimal Scale and Feedstock Mix: Guided by the success of European AD plants. - Supportive Regulations and Financial Mechanisms: Emulating Europe’s grid-connected biomethane plants and financial support structures. 📍Comprehensive Funding Plans - Capital Grants: €40 million allocated for biomethane production. - AD Plant Upgrades: Financial support for upgrading existing and new plants. - Future Rounds: Additional funding to achieve 5.7 TWh by 2030. 📍Integration with Gas Networks - Connection Infrastructure: Incentivizing, facilitating and economically support part of the costs of producers' connections to the gas network. - Central grid injection facilities: Construction of essential components in the distribution infrastructure, facilitating the injection of renewable gas into the gas grid from various AD units. - Regulatory and Technical Support: Collaborating with regulatory bodies and providing technical assistance. We welcome this plan and recognize the crucial role of gas infrastructure in the decarbonization process. Wishing our Irish friends from Gas Networks Ireland every success in their endeavors.🤞 Portugal is also on this path with the publication of the Biomethane Action Plan (BAP). Together, we are all contributing to a more sustainable future! 🌱🌍 You can read the full document here 👇 https://lnkd.in/di5M5mq3 #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Biomethane #Decarbonization #RenewableEnergy #CircularEconomy

Happy #AgWeek! American farmers are doing more than you know to be stewards of the soil and air. Here’s another example: Last month, Marshall Ridge Dairy in Marshall County, Iowa, completed a facility that’s anaerobically digesting the manure from its milking cows to create renewable fuel that will replace diesel fuel in the trucks that transport goods across our highways. The farm will produce 1.7 million gallons of low carbon-intensity RNG annually plus lots of nutrient-rich natural fertilizer, too! Creating RNG from manure is a great example of circular economy—instead of wasting our waste, we can use it to make valuable clean fuel—and prevent methane emissions at the same time. https://lnkd.in/gzXAJdcR #AgricultureWeek #AgWeek24 #GrowingAClimateForABetterTomorrow #RenewableEnergy

#ClimateSolutions update: University of California, Davis received a $4.77M grant from CalRecycle to upgrade its Renewable Energy Anaerobic Digester, or READ facility. The facility can be used to produce renewable energy, all while diverting thousands of tons of food waste away from land fills, where they would otherwise generate methane emissions that contribute to climate change.
