This month, our guest blogger Patricia Gómez Peláez shines a light on the importance of transparency, advocacy and accessibility for businesses big and small. Through her own experiences with chronic illness, she shares the importance of acceptance and inclusion, as well as the power that words have to shape our own narratives. "In the business world we need words, we need safe spaces to speak up, we need validation and understanding but most of all we need actions." I have been a part of countless discussions on how to address complex challenges we face in our modern societies. From educating the next generation of problem solvers, improving access to health care, building economic clusters to allow SMMEs to thrive, building entrepreneurial ecosystems etc. Over time I can to a realisation that the language we use to describe the challenges we face has a huge impact in biasing where people looked for solutions. I have witnessed groups miss out on creating new possibilities and opportunities for collaboration, all because of a leading question that biased conversations. If you want to learn how to ask questions that to guide conversations and get people to move forward together, this Strategic Doing Talk will give you a taste of how to do that. Jack Ricchiuto is a true master of the art of asking such questions.
We are facing complex challenges that we do not know how to address. To generate solutions, we should move from a position of advocacy to a position of inquiry. To do that..we need to ask the right questions. There's much wisdom here on how to ask the right questions. I've worked with both Jack and Kim for decades. Join us. It just might be the best hour you'll spend all week.

Is it tough for you to take in a lot of mainstream news? We may struggle to balance our compassion, advocacy and well-being at the same time. It doesn't make you a bad person, or less woke, it makes you a human who needs balance and that's ok! Check out my latest blog where I share tips about how to maintain that balance. Our Reframing Advocacy webinar can assist professionals and volunteers at history organizations of all types and sizes to strengthen the impact of their advocacy efforts and more effectively explain the purpose and value of history. Series 5 /Episode 10: Conversation with Chason Forehand I had such a good time talking with Chason Forehand. We both agreed that advocacy is essentially a creative act. It is about enabling others to dream and transform themselves, their thinking, their skill set, and their lives. Working in this creative space involves both humility and vulnerability. Nurturing creativity involves seeking out the extraordinary in each individual and giving them the chance to demonstrate it.
