SEO takes 6+ months. So what do you talk about in your first few months of client reports? Talk about the deliverables. The tech work, the blog posts, the links. Be specific in what you have done. Take pride in the deliverables and explain how the results from the work will all come into fruition after a few months. Once the results come in, switch the focus then to that and how well it aligns with projections, and what you will do next.
We do so. However, sometimes a few clients act as if they are doing PPC, not SEO, and want fast results. It's very challenging to handle this situation.
I like to rely on the phrase that SEO is "a marathon, not a sprint" but one that will continue giving without a ton of effort before long. I also think it's key to advocate for a balanced approach between owned, earned, and paid media. While owned is ramping up, you can use earned and paid to get you started.
I typically begin by managing client expectations around SEO. Many clients ask about timeframes for results, so I emphasize that SEO is a gradual process, not an instant fix. I prefer to focus on a small set of targeted keywords, setting specific milestones to achieve progress. Once we hit one threshold, we move on to the next, ensuring consistent, measurable growth over time.
Focusing on deliverables in the early months is key to building client trust. Clear communication about what’s been accomplished sets the stage for long-term results.
Once results start showing, shift the focus to outcomes, projections, and future strategies.
Based on my local SEO experience, from the first couple months it should show some movements. We track and compare all the keywords from the day 1 and we always compare the report at day 30. So you can cleary see the changes on ranking.
As a SEO person, you should be more focused on your deliverables, and I strongly support all said Joe. To save yourself the stress of dealing with a tough client, ensure you properly discuss with the client how SEO works and how well you will communicate the progress of the project. Make it all clear at the start, talk about your deliverables and you will have your space to deliver the best.
Does it also take 6+ months to notice a rise in capital?
Nicely explained. In those course of time major portion of clients are anixous about workflow and outcome. Those points will helpfull.
No Hacks. Just Hard Work
2dI like to share impression data from GSC. It's a good visual to show traction, in that content is getting indexed and is ranking.
