In last month's regulatory landscape, several key updates bring the UK closer to strengthened online safety. Here’s a snapshot: 🔒 March 2025 Deadline for Illegal Content Safety Ofcom is preparing to implement the Online Safety Act (OSA) in full, including duties for regulated services to tackle illegal content. A register of categorised services is underway, with details on compliance expected next year. 🚫 Non-Consensual Image Sharing as a Priority Offence A new priority under the OSA: the UK government has criminalised sharing intimate images without consent, urging platforms to prevent and swiftly remove such content. 📽️ End of VSP Regime Transition Period The VSP (Video-Sharing Platforms) regime will be fully replaced by OSA regulations around July 2025. Providers should act now to meet new compliance standards. 📊 Ofcom’s Consultation on Fees & Penalties To sustain the online safety regime, Ofcom proposes a fee structure based on global revenue, with consultation open until January 9, 2025.
