When we heard there was an event on “Empowering Women in Sustainable Entrepreneurship”, there was no doubt our co-founder Ivy Yu would seek out this opportunity to join!
The event was held by Mosaic Venture Lab, featuring female panellists, female entrepreneurs and VCs who shared a wealth of knowledge and facilitated connections. This gathering brought together brilliant minds, passionate entrepreneurs, and change-makers committed to driving sustainable business practices while #empowering women. Here are some key takeaways and learnings from the event:
1. Sustainability as a driving force
#Sustainability is not just a buzzword; it’s a fundamental pillar for the future economy. As entrepreneurs, we have a responsibility to balance environmental impact, social equity, and economic growth. Sustainable development requires a long-term approach—one that prioritises both people and the planet.
2. Collaboration and partnerships
Collaboration is key to sustainable entrepreneurship. We heard inspiring stories of successful partnerships between women entrepreneurs, venture capital groups, and NGOs. Only 2% of VC funds are awarded to female-led businesses and even less to female social entrepreneurs - further proving the importance of events like this, which were able to connect like-minded founders to share resources and connections to drive growth and change.
3. Inclusive innovation
Innovation is at the heart of entrepreneurship. The event highlighted the importance of inclusive innovation—creating solutions that address the needs of diverse communities. As women entrepreneurs, we have a unique perspective that can drive meaningful change. A big takeaway was how we can lead and innovate with empathy and inclusion at the forefront.
4. Inspiring role models
The panellists Angela You-Wei Feng, Kelly Lei, Nai-Hsin Chen, and Ming Chu sat down to share their journeys and pathways into entrepreneurship, inspiring the next generation of female founders. Their stories serve as a beacon of inspiration for all, and they emphasize the importance of being visible and accessible to drive the next generation of female role models who will go further by breaking barriers, creating thriving businesses, and uplifting others along the way.
