📢 Meet our Shadow Commissioners for Digital Inclusion! We are delighted to introduce Delphine Jamet, Digital Councillor of Bordeaux Métropole, and Faouzi Achbar, Deputy Mayor of Gemeente Rotterdam, as Eurocities newly appointed Shadow Commissioners for #DigitalInclusion. As the level of government closest to citizens, cities like Bordeaux Metropole and Rotterdam are at the forefront of mapping and tackling this challenge. But scaling up these efforts requires EU support. Their mission is to ensure that no one is left behind in Europe’s digital transformation. An inclusive digital future is within reach, but we must act now to address the digital divide - a major barrier to achieving the #DigitalDecade goals. #TeamLocalEurope

This partnership benefits from geographical and cultural diversity and it includes one partner from an IPA (Instrument for Pre-Accession) country. 🌍 🔹 An overview on the Policy Context of the EU regarding digitalization as a core policy of the EU, in order to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life of citizens. Yet, this accelerated digital transition across Europe is creating societal imbalances, affecting both those who are excluded already, and also creating newly excluded groups, that is "digital divide”. 💻 🔹 A synthesis of the key points identified in the Digi-Inclusion baseline process that help to shape the network methodology and network roadmap as well as the methodology and roadmap themselves. Digitalisation is a challenge for many, resulting in digital exclusion for as many as one out of five (!) citizens in Norway. The Norwegian Directorate of Health’s (Helsedirektoratet) Center for an age-friendly Norway asked us to help them get a holistic and understandable overview of the issue and existing insights and different governmental strategies. Our solution? A a visual ecosystem map to facilitate cross-sector collaboration on digital inclusion. Joint Global Communiqué on the Role of Local and Regional Governments in the Global Digital Compact On 10th September 2024, UN-Habitat, in partnership with UCLG, EuroCities, WeGO, and Smart City Expo World Congress, brought together Local and Regional Governments (LRGs), international organizations, and digital experts to discuss the vital role of LRGs in digital governance. The session highlighted the importance of people-centered technology, digital inclusion, and sustainability in shaping the future of our urban environments. The Joint Global Communiqué calls for LRGs to be recognized in the implementation of the Global Digital Compact, emphasizing their role in bridging digital divides, fostering local innovation, and ensuring inclusive digital strategies. Leveraging public innovation for social inclusion in #Iberoamerica. At their summit in Ecuador on innovation, inclusion and sustainability, the Heads of State and Government of #Iberoamerican countries highlight the role of digitally-enabled public #innovation in fostering social #inclusion.   Delighted to have launched in this context our joint report OECD Public Governance and Secretaría General Iberoamericana (SEGIB) where we explore 5 key trends in government innovation across the region to highlight their potential to enhance social inclusion and public services to those who need them most. Our team attended the launch of the First Nations digital inclusion roadmap: 2026 and beyond. The Roadmap outlines a strategic direction towards equal levels of digital inclusion for First Nations Australians. It emphasises the importance of place-based approaches, technology-agnostic solutions, and placing the consumer preferences of First Nations Australians at the centre. We're thrilled to see ACCAN’s long-term advocacy reflected in this roadmap. These initiatives are crucial steps towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring equal access and opportunity for First Nations Australians.
