Lincoln's Principal Consultant, Accounting & Finance Kristian Mansfield observed that "after [Q1's] prolonged period of uncertainty, there’s a noticeable shift towards normalising in hiring practices. Companies are gradually beginning to regain confidence, leading to an increase in the volume of work and a corresponding uptick in hiring activity." Who you THINK you need to hire vs who you actually NEED to hire can look totally different. A client of mine asked me to find their next Finance Manager. Clear requirements: - A newly qualified Accountant - Someone who could grow with the business When we sat down to discuss the reasons for the role and the challenges this person would help with, something else became clear: - The senior management team was stretched - This person needed to alleviate that pressure - Growing with the business was a long term, not short term outcome My view? What they really needed was a highly experienced QBE Finance Manager. They’d have similar salary expectations but would already possess extensive industry knowledge, could alleviate pressure and would require minimal training and support. Most importantly, they needed someone who enjoys the role for the long term. After meeting the candidates, the client agreed and hired a fantastic Finance Manager with 25+ years in the industry. This is why it’s so important to partner with the right consultant. A good recruiter doesn’t just follow a brief - they understand your needs, guide your recruitment plans, and deliver a long-term solution!

Scott Perry's #InterviewTip: I've been recruiting qualified finance positions in Dorset for over five years now. With the market proving more competitive for candidates, I wanted to offer an interview tip which is solely focused on you. You need to be able to articulate the value you add to employers - in addition to your previous achievements. This is especially apparent when interviewing for Finance Manager / Financial Controller positions where at this seniority, it's expected that will be able to complete all required accounting tasks. What differentiates you from your competition is your value-add proposition. This can be in many forms, be it systems and process improvement, commercial analysis and financial modelling or by providing a strong technical accounting skill set to aid with control and compliance.
