Amazon RDS Extended Support APIs are now available After the RDS end of standard support date has passed, you can prevent the creation of a new DB instance or a new Multi-AZ DB cluster and avoid RDS Extended Support charges. In the AWS CLI, specify open-source-rds-extended-support-disabled for the --engine-lifecycle-support option. https://lnkd.in/gi_uX9xZ #Amazon #RDS #PostgreSQL #MySQL #Aurora

Important updates from AWS Extended Support for MySQL and PostgreSQL Databases on Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS - https://lnkd.in/eAceHt5p Amazon EKS Extended Support for Kubernetes Versions - Pricing - https://lnkd.in/ePsD8mgr In a nutshell: Extended support for databases: You can now get critical security and bug fixes for your MySQL and PostgreSQL databases on Amazon Aurora and RDS for up to three years beyond the standard support period. This can be helpful if you're not ready to upgrade to a newer version of the database software. Extended support for Kubernetes versions: If you're running a Kubernetes cluster on Amazon EKS, you can now get an additional 12 months of security patches and bug fixes for your cluster by paying an extra $0.50 per hour. This can be helpful if you need to stay on an older version of Kubernetes for compatibility reasons. Before you leap: It's important to consider the cost implications of using extended support. Extended support can also increase your risk of technical debt, as you'll be staying on an older version of software that may not have the latest features and security updates. Small reminder: Do you make sure to update components like your database engine? In light of the recent announcement regarding the support of new Amazon RDS versions, I'd like to reiterate a critical point from one of my earlier posts: AWS imposes additional fees for maintaining components after their standard support date has ended. This fact underlines the importance of regular updates, spotlighting not just the technical benefits but also the financial implications. - PostgreSQL 11: Immediate action is needed. Extended Support began on 1 March 2024, with fees being charged from 1 April 2024. Users of this version might already see extended support fees on their bills. - PostgreSQL 12: Get ready for Extended Support starting on 1 March 2025 to sidestep any unexpected expenses. The essence of updates isn't just about mitigating financial implications, it’s about guaranteeing the security, efficiency, and robustness of our tech environments.
