The best advice I can give for choosing a role in sales? Pick a role with a great sales leader. Especially if you’re at the beginning of your career. A great sales leader will train and develop you. They’ll have a clear vision for the sales function and a strategy to support this. If you find these roles then you’ll enjoy your role more and, more than likely, improve your value in the market. Don’t fall into the trap of just looking at salary or culture. These are important, obviously. But for the long term, a great sales leader is number 1. PS. It's something that we focus on with our clients as well. Great sales leaders = great clients #saleshiring #sdrroles #salesjobsearch

#Titles are out of control!! Back in my day Sonny, Titles matched what you actually did! **Warning!! Old Man Rant Coming*** Sales Rep / Account Manager / Territory Manager 👨💼 - Individual Contributor Sales Manager 👨💼👨💼 - Manages Sales Reps Sales Director 👨💼👨💼👨💼- Manages Sales Managers VP of Sales 👨💼👨💼👨💼👨💼- Designs the Strategic Direction of an Organization / Manages Sales Directors In todays business world, we have individual contributors with VP of Sales Titles. An IC could also be a Regional Sales Manager or even Sales Director. Of course, you direct the sales in the region... 😩 Sounds like a Sales Rep to me...I could be wrong. Who are the biggest offenders with this "Title Inflation"? The very smallest of companies! You're the only sales rep, BLAM!!! You're now the VP of Sales!! A Live Scenario of a Hiring Manager: Thanks for applying to my listing, tell me what you do currently. "I'm Sales Director for Squish". Wow that sounds great what do you actually do. "Well, I sell prepaid calling cards in three zip codes within the greater Branson, Missouri Area." Huh, slightly less important than your title suggests but ok let's run with it. I know what you might be thinking (if you do not agree with my rant) who cares, what does it matter to the greater picture? You're the hiring manager, figure it out! Here's what it does. It confuses the talent pool: A greener individual contributor with a VP of Sales title, now has nowhere to go. A true Senior Sales Rep is forced to compete with candidates with a VP of Sales Title for a Sales Manager position putting them at a "first look" disadvantage. As a hiring manager I see quite a few "VP of Sales" applying for entry level sales positions. It cheapens leadership roles: I was recently approached by an organization to fill a leadership position as a "Sales Director" (Don't worry Advantech, I'm not going anywhere). After reviewing the other employees on #Linkedin I noticed EVERYONE IN SALES WAS A SALES DIRECTOR!!! I asked about that and was told that recently they changed the titles of the sales team from ICs being Sales Directors to Territory Managers and this role was a true leadership position. You could imagine that everyone ran to LinkedIn to update their new title to Territory Manager. I get it, staffing and talent is a competition, and we have to do whatever we can to attract top tier talent. I'm just asking that we all just take a deep breath and return to earth with this trend. 🎸🎸🎸 #sales #salesmanager #salesleadership #opentowork #techsales #tech #meddevice #meddevicesales #enterprise #enterprisesales #b2bsales #b2b #VPofSales #Salesmanager #SalesDirector

🚨 Sales leaders – don’t make this hiring mistake! 🚨 Ever hear CEOs and sales leaders say they need a sales pro with industry experience because their industry is “unique”? Sure, sometimes it's true, but more often than not…it’s not! The real deal? You need someone with rock-solid sales skills. If they can generate interest and guide prospects through each stage of the sales process, they'll hit those sales targets. Industry experience? Nice to have. Sales skills? Essential. Hire the skills, teach the industry! #SalesTips #SalesLeadership #SalesSuccess
