On two separate occasions recently the Vynamic team of Tilewa Otunba Nwaeze, MPH, Saurabh Raman and I were asked what our #healthservices team get support requests on most often. One of the first things that came to our mind was how health systems and health plans must swiftly re-organize smartly for a future that fully utilizes the digital engagement tools they've invested in. Utilizing doesn't just mean plugging these new advances into workflows; it also means building a refreshed organization that catches up to the 'tech'.   ➡ In order to optimize technology stack & capabilities to enhance the user / patient /customer experience- you must redesign teams, jobs to be done, and structure to drive this every day. The new digital engagement vision.   ➡ To be able to establish & manage effective partnerships with vendors & develop an innovative collaboration, you must have the team and goals to maximize the solutions and new partnerships effectively. The new digital ways of working.   ➡ To fully develop and capture analytics capabilities that unlock actionable insights, you must create data leadership and support roles to ensure you are constantly converting these insights into patient-centric workflow, and promoting growth within the organization. The new way to drive digital growth. This new case study on our website speaks to some of these must-haves.  A team can have access to incredible texting platforms, automated customer cues, and new chat bots that carefully navigate patients; but many times the Operating Model is not set up to support this for the new 'system'. And maybe more importantly, it cannot be expected that old roles and responsibilities meet the new capability needs.

Digital health tools are frequently designed for the end-user patient based on a technology mindset that doesn’t represent the patient’s perspective. This “top-down” model results in a paternalistic design rather than a patient-centric product. Lack of patient involvement in a digital tool’s design results in low uptake and acceptance. At dbaza health, we do things differently. By understanding patients’ perspectives, specifically their needs, preferences, behaviors, and characteristics, we can help designers deliver a personalized experience with their digital tools. There is no question that technology has driven significant improvements in healthcare delivery and our ability to identify and treat medical conditions. It has enabled us to collect, synthesize and utilize health data to describe patient populations and the morbidities driving healthcare cost, and develop new models of healthcare delivery. We can offer healthcare services and physician consults virtually, which improves access to care for anyone with an internet connection. Yet, health inequities and disparities abound. While health technology continues to advance and explore new ways of supporting healthcare delivery and improving health outcomes, the translation of that technology to real-world improvements in health equity has not been fully realized. I’m eager to hear your insights: How has health technology improved health equity and how has it fallen short? What missed opportunities have there been in using health tech to advance health equity?
