Not thrilled that the headline writer focuses on "fixing" mistakes. The article is a good collection of tips to improve your writing: humanize the story, build in tension, omit needless words. The tips are mostly basic journalism and storytelling, but they are good tips and great things for all writers to remember.

This is a good refresher from the Next Big Idea Club for anyone who writes anything, regardless of whether you are in PR/Comms. Easy bullet point reminders on conciseness in writing, the elevator speech, how to offer constructive criticism, out of office do's and don'ts, etc... It also offers sound advice about how to deliver that "bad news"...preferably in person, but sometimes that's just not possible so I appreciate the tips on crafting that email news! #writingtips #communications #writing #keyreminders #publicrelations #leadership

You have got 2 minutes to introduce yourself and snatch a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Can you pitch yourself in that short time? Hey, buddy. Can you pitch yourself without boring the listener? I have read a lot of boring profiles with verbose words and unnecessary statements, and I wonder why the torture. Listen: No one has the time to read lengthy profiles about you filled with academic certifications and professional training. If I am reading your profile, the first question I will ask is: Is this person someone I should listen to? How can he influence my growth or career trajectory? Today, I want you to ditch the boring introductions and learn to say words simply and concisely. And the most important: in an entertaining way. Let's give this another try. Pitch yourself in the comment section in three sentences without boring the readers. I know you can do this. I will go first: My name is Amaka Nweke, and I am a business writer. Funny enough, I didn't know what business writing was about until I joined a professional writing agency. Now, I am adept at writing corporate profiles, pitch decks, professional CVs, corporate proposals, and corporate ads. Your turn. You never know who might be reading this. PS: Don’t partake in this alone. Repost ♻️ this and make more meaningful connections. #pitch #personalprofile #businesswriting #introduction

Which story should I tell? It's a problem so many people face. I recently saw President Obama’s former speech writer Terry Szuplat at his book launch for Say It Well and he spoke about the importance of writing your ideas down. Writing solidifies your ideas. It helps you make decisions. It keeps you from telling stories that are too long. In coaching, I teach my clients a 7 sentence story framework to write your stories down. We build a library of compelling stories you can pull off the shelves at any time. This gives you confidence and agility to answer questions on the fly. One of my clients described how she went from rambling and insecure to being able to calmly introduce herself. "I gave a warm welcome and introduced an overview of the session. I kept it more concise rather than a long drawn out intro. It felt short and sweet." Follow along here to learn 4 steps to tell compelling stories in your work presentations. ---- I'm Madeline and I teach introverts and creatives professionals how to overcome their fear of public speaking and advocate for their ideas. #publicspeaking #presentationskills #communication #communicationcoach #storytelling

Persuasive writing is about guiding your reader to a specific conclusion, where every word matters. It’s about creating an emotional and logical connection that motivates action. The first step is to understand what your audience needs and values. When you know what’s important to them, you can craft a message that truly resonates. How you structure your writing is also important. If you organize your ideas in a way that naturally builds to your main point, it makes it easier for your audience to follow along. Facts and data are crucial, but adding a bit of storytelling and emotional appeal can ignite the passion that transforms an argument into a movement. Lastly, the language you choose should be strong and confident. Steer clear of hedging or using passive voice—be assertive and clear with your message. Persuasive writing involves sharing what you believe and inspiring others to believe it, too. How do you craft persuasive writing that makes an impact? #persuasivewriting #communicationskills #professionalwriting #influence #writingtips
