We needed to Gen Z selfie at our lecture today at Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Film and Media Studies just so we could feel young.
Distilleri is the official industry partner for the school and we're proud to continue inspiring young minds to come into our industry and experience its goods, bads and uglies.
Elevating the #firstgen experience can take many forms. Take Western Kentucky University student Veronica Vallejo-Garcia, whose experiences as a first-gen student culminated in her senior thesis film, “First Gen,” which "follows a first-generation Latina student caught between her parents; expectations and personal aspirations of pursuing the arts." Read more of her story in this #FirstScholarsNetwork blog at bit.ly/4blZFQP.
The RecordShop is excited to announce our recent partnership with students from Mencap and Grove School here in Haringey, offering meaningful work experience opportunities. Through this initiative, students will participate in work experience tailored to introduce them to various aspects of a professional workplace, including customer service and managing creative projects. This opportunity is designed not only to provide hands-on experience, but to also build their confidence and interpersonal skills in a real-world environment, preparing them for life beyond the classroom.
This collaboration highlights the importance of inclusive work experiences for young people, especially those with learning disabilities or additional needs.
By engaging with tasks and responsibilities at The RecordShop, students gain practical skills, improve their problem-solving abilities and build valuable connections with the local community.
Such opportunities empower them to see their potential, build self-reliance and better navigate future employment.
We're excited to publicly announce our long-standing partnership with Pepperdine University's Office of Student Accessibility 🎉
Some of the highlights from their team's work with our PDF-to-HTML Remediation product:
- Reduced document remediation time significantly, enabling faster access to course materials for students with low vision.
- Cut external remediation costs, saving thousands of dollars in outsourced services.
- Remediated nearly 2,000 pages within the first month, which would not have been possible with manual remediation.
- Improved OSA adoption, with team members and faculty using the tool to make academic documents accessible.
- Enhanced compliance, meeting and exceeding ADA accessibility standards.
As reported by the Perkins School for the Blind, the post‐secondary school completion rate for blind or low-vision students is 42.8% as compared to 62.2% for the broader U.S. college graduation rate.
Our north star with this and other educational partnerships is to increase the university graduation rate for blind or low-vision students.

Talking diversity on LI requires nuance, gravitas, and a little foolhardiness.
I created a post last week that tried to walk that thin line. There was definitely a lot of interest to have that discussion.
What did we discuss?
How it’s time for DE&I corporate functions to begin to pivot. Pivot away from a focus on skin color, race, gender and ethnicity. Pivot towards building teams with a diversity of skills, competencies and life experiences.
Many of the people I know who work in the DE&I realm today are very talented. But I’m just not seeing examples of this pivot having occurred yet.
So how do we get that started? I’m willing to participate.
If someone reading this works for a company that could benefit from this specific kind of focus on diversity, we could bring some projects into my L-EAF Lab and have the students help us experiment on solutions.
Let’s build a paradigm shift into how we look at diversity.
