Exciting news for Colorado's tech hubs! Governor Polis and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade announced recipients of the Colorado Technology Hub Development Grant. This initiative, backed by a $2 million investment, aims to bolster Colorado's position in key tech sectors, fuel regional growth, and generate employment opportunities statewide. The grant recipients are: Colorado CleanRange Coalition: Receives up to $625,000 to drive clean energy adoption through the CleanRange Connect platform, virtual accelerators, and workforce development initiatives. Resilient & Adaptive Cyber Protection of Industrial Control Devices & Systems (RAPIDS): Based in Grand Junction, this consortium receives up to $625,000 to fortify cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, starting with the Colorado River. Their efforts include curriculum development, workforce training, and secure water resource management solutions. Securing Space Assets Coalition: Based in Colorado Springs, this coalition receives up to $750,000 to bolster Colorado's aerospace, defense, and cybersecurity sectors. In the wake of recent federal funding opportunity announcements, this article popped up in my memories for me. The latest of large federal funding was Tech Hub awards from the EDA. Michigan was not awarded the funds or designation as a tech hub but other states (including our neighbors IL, IN and OH) did because they found ways to be state inclusive. Michigan has to ask, what do we do well as a state beyond our regional verticals (automotive, battery, solar & aerospace)? What's our sweet spot that empowers all the regions to succeed in those verticals? That should be our mindset and approach.
