The ICC’s recent move to issue joint arrest warrants for the Israeli prime minister and defense minister, along with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, is raising eyebrows, to say the least. For context, Sinwar explicitly uses his own people as human shields as part of his strategic policy to put pressure on Israel. He is currently hiding out in a tunnel in Gaza like the rat that he is surrounded by Israeli women and children hostages to prevent the IDF from eliminating him. Sinwar orchestrated the October 7 massacres that killed over 1,200+ Israelis in a single day and yet…um, why wait until now to prosecute Sinwar, ICC? Highly suspicious, guys. As for the democratically elected Binyamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the Israeli prime minister and defense minister respectively, this is just another slimy PR stunt to defame a country that is fighting a multi-front genocidal war against its citizens that started with an Iran-funded massacre committed en masse by the Gazan population. One of the accusations the ICC has leveled against Netanyahu and Gallant is that they’re responsible for starving Palestinians in Gaza. An incredible accusation considering that Israel has been allowing hundreds of trucks of food and aid each week into Gaza (unfortunately, a good portion of it promptly gets stolen by Hamas). Naturally, Egypt, which is currently blocking aid into Gaza, is off the hook. The ICC has no real jurisdiction or enforcement power; they have to depend on its member states to arrest the people who are prosecuted in their kangaroo court. Did you know that the U.S., among many other major countries, is not a member of the ICC and (thankfully) not subject to its goofball rulings? For illustration, the ICC is still attempting to prosecute American soldiers who served in Afghanistan with the goal of having them arrested. Unsurprisingly, the U.S. isn’t game. Did you know that Venezuela is a member of the ICC? Venezuela is run by communist criminals who have murdered thousands of their own citizens. What does the ICC have to say about this…? Cue the crickets, folks. 🦗 The big joke is that the “State of Palestine,” which currently has no legitimate government, is a member of the ICC. I can’t wait to watch the Palestinians dig Yahya Sinwar out of the tunnels and hand him over to the tribunal. The ICC just publicly smeared Israel, but also enraged the Palestinians, so…I mean, everyone is mad at you guys now. 🙄
Well said Jessica L. Walton!
Well said Jessica A few questions from an international legal perspective: Does Palestine fulfil the attributes of statehood? As per the Montevideo Convention? How does the international community reconcile to the fact that there are two governments, one in West Bank and one in Gaza? If there is one State of Palestine, whether Hamas is the legitimate government of Palestine or the Palestine Authority?
