Identity theft is a real cybersecurity concern. The victim spent around a year and half in imprisonment and in a mental hospital. What is the actual story? In an astonishing case of identity theft, a 58-year-old hospital systems administrator admitted to using another man's identity for over 30 years. This week, he faced US federal charges for his actions. The story unfolds with a deception that began in 1988 and included employment, loans, and even raising a child under a stolen name. The real victim spent over a year and half wrongfully imprisoned and in a mental institution before the truth came to light. The perpetrator now faces up to 32 years in prison and a hefty fine. 🔺It is a reminder of the critical importance of protecting personal information! But how can you protect your personal information to prevent identity theft? Here are some quick pointers: ➤ Secure your personally identifiable numbers, such as DL, Addhar, or Social Security. Only share it when absolutely necessary. ➤ Use strong, unique passwords for all accounts, update them regularly, and employ multi-factor authentication whenever possible. ➤ Monitor your credit reports and bank statements for unusual activities. ➤ Be wary of phishing emails or calls. Never share personal info without verifying the source. ➤ Shred important documents before throwing them away. #IdentityTheft #Justice #CyberSecurity
