Last year, I uprooted my family from the comforts of life in the US to move to the Philippines and help build GoTyme Bank. We lived in a beautiful town (shoutout to Elmhurst, IL), had amazing friends, and were thriving in our respective areas--my wife was a beloved lay director at the local community faith formation group, my daughter had just played a lead role at the school play, our dog had buddies at every street corner, and I had a great team at work, not to mention a phenomenal support system of ex-colleagues and mentors. Those who know me well, know that I am not much of a risk taker when it involves personal matters. And yet we took the plunge because I believed in the bank's mission and I wanted my second act to be purposeful. Many called our move crazy and I don't fault them because sometimes I can't believe it myself. Which brings me to today. My wife is reconnecting with old friends, my daughter is making new ones, we are spending quality time with family and I get to work on a passion project to provide accessible and affordable credit to those who need it the most for a bank that has over 5 million customers (in just 2 years!), NPS scores that are through the roof, and the support of the best digital bank in the world. I don't know how the story will end, but based on the first few chapters, I like our chances. p.s. Our dog is still getting used to the concrete jungle and the heat, but he's slowly making new furry pals in the neighborhood.
What an inspiring journey, Gul! Having worked with you, I’m not surprised by the courage and purpose behind this leap. Wishing you and your family continued success and happiness—GoTyme Bank is lucky to have you!
Always cheering for you and your family Jesse, so so proud of you!
Bold move. But then again, these are the moments that will lead to the great stories your daughter will share with the next generation after her! Wishing you the best of success in this phase!
Hi Jesse Lucas. Congratulations my former Elmhurst friend and best of luck. Keep me in mind if I can assist with growth marketing. Happy Holidays!
