The environmental review for the bridge alone is a case study in its futility. It reveals that this expansion will raise the highway’s eastbound capacity from 4,500 cars per hour to 6,000. Highway 401 is crippled. East-west transit times are brutal especially to Pearson International Airport which is Canada’s largest airport. The 401 is beyond the capacity intended when it was built more than half a century ago. Here’s a solution that won’t cost taxpayers a dollar and will put more money into our government treasury every year: BAN TRANPORT TRUCKS ON HIGHWAY 401 from Burlington to Clarington. Only allow cube vans for local deliveries. Transport traffic can reroute to the underutilized 407 toll route and generate toll income for the Province. Removing transport trucks from the 401 will significantly free up traffic and enhance driving safety. We need common sense solutions to common problems that damage our quality of life. Let’s get with it.

I lived in Atlanta where EVERYBODY uses public transit. I think if we were more vocal about the benefits of public teansit and started a focus group targeting these 11 areas, Fort Worth would benefit more from our services. 1. Improve service frequency & coverage 2. Enhance connectivity 3. Invest in infrastructure and facilities 4. Make public transit affordable for ALL demographics- we’re doing good here but there is always room for improvement. 5. Increase awareness and accessibility- market campaigns targeting students young professionals and low income residents. 6. Improve safety and comfort. Especially at stations that are not well lit and having security personnel PRESENT & VISIBLE during all working hours. 7. PARTNERSHIPS with big employers to develop a commuter program- Amazon, Walmart, UPS, GXO etc. 8. Promote environmental benefits 9. INCREASE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & PUBLIC INPUT 10. Leverage events and attractions 11. Promote transit to tourists - $2.50 train ride to DFW airport VS $25 Uber/LYFT. Let’s work together to remove the stigma of public transit so it can become the preferred method of transportation.

A public comment period concludes April 18 on Washington State Department of Transportation proposals to increase Amtrak Cascades service over the next 20 years to as many as 16 daily round trips between Seattle and Portland, and six between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, reported Trains. "The 46-page Preliminary Service Development Plan for the Cascades offers five different scenarios to increase service from the baseline of two Seattle-Vancouver and six Seattle-Portland round trips. Variants include the number of daily trains; bus service between Bellingham, Wash., and Vancouver for some trips; some limited-stop or express trains; and infrastructure upgrades that would allow top speeds of 90 mph. Buses connect our neighborhoods and communities equitably and serve as a lifeline for millions of residents. Compared with peer regions, the Chicago region dedicates very little roadway space for public transit. Transit agencies serving cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, Miami, Minneapolis, Houston, and Phoenix all have over 100 miles of transit-only or transit-priority roadway lanes. Chicago has less than 15 lane miles in this category. Our bus riders deserve better, and the RTA is excited to see a City Council committee hearing for advancing Western Avenue BRT. Western Avenue is one of the busiest bus corridors in the Chicago region, with more than 20,000 rides per weekday and connections to four Chicago Transit Authority rail lines and one Metra Commuter Rail line. These riders deserve fast and reliable service on their way to work, school, healthcare centers, and visits with family and friends. Building BRT on Western is an efficient way to upgrade service, boost the local economy, and improve quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods. One-third of transit and commuter rail cars operating in the U.S. are more than 25 years old, according to the FTA. These vehicles incur higher maintenance costs and lack modern amenities such as digital signage and direct access for people with disabilities. The latest awards, which cover fiscal years 2024, 2025 and part of 2026, include: Approximately $214 million to the Maryland Department of Transportation of Maryland Transit Administration to purchase 52 new light rail vehicles to replace cars that have been in use for more than 25 years. $100 million to Metra Commuter Rail division of Northern Illinois’ Regional Transportation Authority for 50 multilevel rail cars to replace equipment that is more than 40 years old. Approximately $317 million to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to acquire up to 200 new rail cars for the Market-Frankford Line, the agency’s most heavily used route.
