Day 155 of my $250K challenge, and after making $107K I decided it’s time to stop being “realistic.” This challenge is basic. I do it every year. It was a mistake and it’s sucking the fun out of my life. So, it’s time to up the stakes. Today is day 155 of my $250,000 challenge. I've challenged myself to earn $250,000 this year working as a freelance property insurance claims adjuster. And in this update, I'm making a big change to my goal. I'm almost halfway through the year, which means two things #1 so far this year I've made. $107,410 helping insurance companies with their homeowners and commercial property claims #2 I'll be real with you, I'm getting burned out. If y'all have noticed, I've been very inactive over the last couple weeks and it's because honestly, between running these claims and managing my training company and all the little things that find their way onto your schedule during the summer months, man it's freaking. Exhausting. Sometimes I just wanna sit on the couch and do nothing, but I can't. I got goals, I've got objectives, and I've got a vision, and these things don't get realized when you're vegging out on the couch watching Netflix with your feet up. That's when I realized that this goal of $250,000 in a year, I chose this because I thought it was something that most other people can wrap their heads around and actually believe that I can do. But in reality, this is my average every single year. In other words, I chose to set my goal to be average. So it is time to switch the ******* game up. I don't have much of a problem hitting IN250K in a year. I've done it a dozen times in the last 10 years. But June 1st made me remember something very important. It's hurricane season. If I'm on track to hit 250K right now and a hurricane hits, that 250K is out the ******* window. So you know what? **** it, it's time to stop. In average, it's time to say **** mediocrity. **** setting goals that other people may think is more believable or realistic. The most I ever made in a year doing this **** is 470 K, so this just became a $500,000 challenge. It's time for me to get ******* serious. If a brokerage has a sufficiently large small commercial insurance book of business (i.e., $20M GWP), should they consider getting their own in-house binding authority and managing it themselves? Most domestics will pay 20% base commission and some profit share, and MGAs will typically pay 15% commission and no profit share. If a brokerage can take the best of their small business book (say $5M GWP worth) and move it in-house, are they better off doing so? They probably could jump to 30% commission, but would have the extra cost of managing the book in-house. What do others think of this approach? Is it something mid-sized brokerages should consider? #brokers
