International Road Safety Week - Here's wishing all safety practitioners a thoughtful and productive Australian Road Safety Week. This initiative coincides with the International Road Safety Week. Although it is comparatively safe to drive in Australia, it is not THE safest place in the world to drive. Opportunities remain. Please remember you are much more likely to be hurt or killed in a traffic crash than any other work-related accident (not including disease). As you may already know, vulnerable road users are significantly over represented in global statistics. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists are the most at risk. While this over representation is true, the significant majority of crashes happen to ordinary drivers. Do you have a strategic plan to improve road safety in your organisation? Best wishes, Jeremy Picture: Blue Mountains Gazette

Friends in the Industry - As our weather continues to shift, especially in the northen regions of Canada, it's extremely important that we start working with our teams on winter driving safety. There are some incredible resources available to assist fleets in these conversations. The Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) has done an incredible job building a video series, which highlights what fleets should be considering as we prepare for winter, and provide practical advice to assist professional drivers prepare for winter driving. Video one: Being Alert and Prepared: https://lnkd.in/ghVx2y-i I've been fortunate to learn from different safety experts on how to work with fleets on winter driving, as they bring years of experience and a high level of expertise to operating safely out on the roads. Mike Lefaivre, CTSP, COHSES, Dale H., Dave Elniski, and Cliff Litke are exceptional resources that I highly recommend engaging with, to discuss winter driving and how to best prepare your fleet for the upcoming winter. Please feel free to reach out to Harp Powar and I, to discuss how we can also support your organization as you prepare for the winter season. I hope you have an incredible day! #IndustryAdvocates #SuccessInTransportation #GrowthMindset #WinterDriving #WinterSeason #RoadSafety #Trucking #Transportation #Safety #SafetyProfessionals

Irish Road Safety Week (Oct 7th to 13th) Ireland’s Road Safety Week takes place during next week from Monday October 7th. It is organised by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and features a range of activities spread throughout Ireland across the week, all with the aim of improving road safety. We all have a duty to proactively do what we can to improve road safety in our everyday lives, not just for next week but 365 days a year. For our part, we will continue to highlight the important part that good tyres can play in helping to improve road safety for us all. The good news is that it is not difficult to ensure your tyres are good for the road, you don’t need any technical training or knowledge. Drivers need to get into the habit of carrying out a regular tyre check: look closely at all four tyres, check tread depth levels (how much rubber is left on the tyre), look out for any bumps or cuts and ensure the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure level. If in doubt, get along to your local tyre dealer who will carry out a free check for you. Looking after your tyres means they will continue to do what we most need them to do: keep your vehicle safe on the roads and, in an emergency situation, bring your vehicle to a safe stop in order to avoid a collision. #RoadSafetyWeek

It's National Road Safety Week 🚌 This year, National Road Safety Week asks everyone who drives, to proudly make the pledge to drive so others survive. Sadly, every year in Australia, around 1200 people lose their lives due to road accidents, while more than 40,000 people are seriously injured*. Traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for Australian children under the age of 15 and the second leading cause of death for all Australians between the ages of 15 and 24*. Horizons West has proudly made the pledge to drive so others survive, and you can, too, by visiting our link in bio.
