The Minns and Albanese governments continue to partner with local governments across New South Wales to get high-priority road and community infrastructure off the ground. This includes partnering with Singleton Council to replace Brunners Bridge, thanks to $6.5 million from the Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads Program and $700,000 from the Albanese Government’s Bridges Renewal Program. It is fantastic to see all levels of government working together to make a project like this possible. Gresford Road is an essential route for residents and the agricultural suppliers of the region. This bridge replacement will allow larger trucks that can carry more freight per trip to safely cross the bridge. Replacing the bridge and facilitating access for more efficient trucks will also have a positive impact in lowering heavy vehicle traffic volumes in the region. https://lnkd.in/gV72aCAx

Help get unaffordable and outdated roads scrapped! Since Labour formed the government in July, it has wasted no time in setting the wheels in motion for change. However, since Rachel Reeves announced a £22bn financial black hole and the need for swingeing cuts, things have speeded up. She asked Transport Secretary Louise Haigh to hold a review to look at "the previous government’s transport commitments." Can you help get the Conservative's national roads programme scrapped? There are many road schemes such as the £10bn Lower Thames Crossing, £1.5bn A66 Northern Trans-Pennine, A46 Newark Bypass, that have weak economic cases and should not pass the review. Other schemes, such as the A57, the A47 schemes, A38 Derby Junctions appear to have stronger economic cases, but should also be cancelled. Aside from the fact that any economic assessment is likely to be years out of date, the data used in the modelling is not fit for purpose in a climate and ecological emergency. The review will inform the Budget which is happening in October. Therefore any letters to Louise Haigh, asking her to scrap new road schemes to address the budget deficit, will need to be sent soon. As well as making savings, also ask her to ensure that some of the money is invested in public transport, to grow the economy and increase opportunity. Can you join me and write a letter? Click here: https://lnkd.in/ewsqF8Fn Thanks!
Excellent article as ever from Private Eye Magazine on the futility of never-ending road building as a solution to congestion. Plus surprise that the £10bn Lower Thames Crossing hasn't been scrapped yet. Anyone concerned at the continuation of the Tory's roads programme and wants it cancelled should write to Louise Haigh post haste. We've made it easy to do: https://lnkd.in/d8GZwC2Y Savings should be split three ways: to reduce the deficit, fill potholes and for better public transport.

While I appreciate the enthusiasm and keeping the north alignment of the LRT in the public mind, this is in the "we have bigger fish to fry" domain at the moment. The province is firmly in the driver's seat and their prime objective is to make most efficient use of taxpayer dollars and extend the Green Line as far south as possible to maximize ridership. The north LRT, which has a business case, is second fiddle for the foreseeable future. https://lnkd.in/g--KuMk4

Please can people write and say they want the railway reopening? It is a shared access of former Bedford and Wellingborough lines. Ironically the Bedford-Northampton rail idea is in their proposed Local Plan. Left hand not know what right hand is doing?! Please remember my new email is [email protected] https://lnkd.in/eyEAQsmV Please write and object to this encroachment on a double track railway corridor denying Northampton ability for direct rails to Bedford/Brighton and all in between and also direct Northampton-Bedford-Cambridge rails too. It is cynical and draconian. Yes, we need development, yes we need housing and brownfield, but to block a rail access when the rail alternative is crying out to rebalance gridlocked congestion and harmful pollution, seems very short sighted. Likewise, we do need Northampton-Market Harborough (N2MHY). Please join us and work with us to keep these options open. 🏡 We’re inviting you to share your views on the government’s proposed ‘golden rules’. The government proposes a sequential test for releasing land from the green belt, with previously developed grey belt land being the first port of call. It also sets out requirements for additional contributions when releasing green belt land. These include 50% affordable housing, improvements to local and national infrastructure, and enhancements to accessible green spaces. We’re looking for your views on: 🟥 Whether the ‘sequential test’ is an effective policy for releasing grey belt land. 🟥 What should accompany new grey belt developments to ensure that they are good places to live. 🟥 How affordable housing can be delivered successfully as part of new development on grey belt land. ➡ Find out more and share your views by 21 October 2024: https://lnkd.in/eBqmmquz #HouseOfLords #BuiltEnvironment #BuiltEnvironmentCommittee #GreyBelt #GreenBelt #UKHousing #Planning #housebuilding

Addressing the UK's pothole problem❗️ Transport Secretary Louise Haigh has reaffirmed the government's commitment to repair up to 1 million additional potholes each year. This initiative is set to enhance road safety and reduce the growing costs associated with road damage, which affect businesses across the UK. During a recent visit to Blackpool, Haigh highlighted the use of advanced technology like Project Amber, which employs high-definition imagery to accelerate the identification and repair of road defects. Blackpool Council's adoption of this technology has significantly reduced pothole-related compensation claims, and the aim is to implement similar systems nationwide. For businesses reliant on road transport, these improvements will lead to fewer vehicle maintenance issues, reduced delays, and lower costs. 🚨 Press Release: Cobh and Harbour Chamber Expresses Continued Frustration Over Road access 🚨 The Chamber has been actively highlighting the need for the redevelopment of the R624 for over 50 years. The recent An Bord Pleanála decision further underscores the urgent need for investment in infrastructure to support both commercial and residential development, which is crucial to our community’s growth, safety and sustainability. The current inadequate infrastructure significantly impacts any future development of the area. The R624 as the sole access road to the area needs to be upgraded to a national road and to come under the Transport Infrastructure Ireland's remit. We urgently call on public representatives and Cork County Council to prioritise this issue and work collaboratively to achieve this. The Cobh and Harbour Chamber remains committed to engaging with stakeholders on behalf of our region. The Cobh and Harbour Chamber notes with huge disappointment the impact which the recent decision by An Bord Pleanála to decline permission for the proposed port facility at Marino Point will have on the continued and future development of the Great Island and Harbour area. The risk of corporate memory loss can be devastating, as we've seen in cases like the Boeing incidents highlighted in the Netflix documentary. From airlines to storm surge barrier operations, fire incident command systems, and hospitals - any organization with activities that can impact human lives or the environment must prioritize robust #knowledgemanagement practices. Even if an organization is not operating in an inherently high-risk, complex environment, it likely has certain high-reliability functions that require meticulous capture and transfer of knowledge. Failing to do so can have catastrophic consequences, as critical information and lessons learned get lost over time. #Knowledgemanagement is not a "could have" for these organizations, but a must-have. By ensuring that mission-critical knowledge is documented, accessible, and shared effectively, companies can safeguard their ability to operate safely and efficiently, even as personnel and leadership change. Ultimately, the need for comprehensive knowledge management spans far beyond traditional High-Reliability Organizations. Any enterprise with activities that carry significant human or environmental impact must treat knowledge as a vital, strategic asset - one that can make the difference between safety and disaster. You have been warned! #corporatememory #knowledgemanagement #riskmanagement
