Every elite athlete works with coaches to perfect form and shed bad habits. Your nonprofit's fundraising appeals deserve that same level of expertise. That's why I use this free detailed checklist (https://buff.ly/3SFAbpr) as a personal coach before creating any appeal.
It calls out areas that need extra polish and reminds us of what top-performing fundraisers include. It's the extra set of eyes your team needs.

When it comes to fundraising, I often see two types of fundraisers.
The “we’ve always done it this way” type, who do the same events and campaigns every year out of habit. Even though what once worked isn’t working so well anymore.
And the frantic, last-minute fundraisers who see another organization doing a certain type of campaign and then flounder to put one together without much thought or strategy.
Neither of these is going to move your nonprofit forward towards your fundraising goals.
When the plan fails, it’s time to make a new plan…

🚨How NOT to Hire Fundraisers 101🚨
Ever been asked an interview question that left you speechless? I have - and those questions stuck with me for all the wrong reasons. Turns out, these kinds of outdated or unrealistic questions aren’t just frustrating—they’re driving away some of the best candidates.
Curious about what NOT to ask when hiring fundraisers? This is a must-read for anyone involved in recruitment or leadership in the nonprofit world.
Let’s rethink the way we hire and build a fundraising culture that’s fair, realistic, and informed.

How to Scare Off the Most Qualified Fundraising Candidates
Ask these six questions:
How many donors can you bring with you?
What’s the largest gift that you raised all by yourself?
How soon will you be able to raise a million dollars?
How would you go after all the low hanging fruit out there?
How would you take advantage of all the unnamed buildings around here?
What’s the best elevator pitch you’ve made?
Such questions are not just ill informed, they are reflective of cultures cocooned in presumptive myth and cut off from philanthropic realities. The more unrealistic the expectations, the higher the rate of turnover - of fundraisers and donors.
